I. POSITION SUMMARY
Responsible for supervision of employees who perform duties related to the purchase of any materials, goods, or supplies necessary to the company. Negotiates with vendors on purchases for company. Is proactive in searching for cost reductions. Performs market research that supports cost reduction and supply improvement including waste reduction. Is a key participant in the strategy of the organization. THIS IS NOT A REMOTE OPPORTUNITY.
II. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (The section is not intended to be an allinclusive list and NGK Ceramics reserves the right to include other duties as assigned):
- Establishes Purchasing policies and ensures compliance to internal and external requirements by maintaining governance to corporate and local purchasing
procedures.
- Negotiates with vendors for goods and services, negotiating the best price and service guarantee.
- Works with global purchasing to manage a large raw material supply chain.
- Considers cost reduction methods for purchased products.
- Develops new supply sources when current vendors are inadequate. Uses accepted reporting methods (surveys, volume measures, supply performance) that display
the vendor performance.
- Establishes account/credit terms with suppliers. Evaluates the ability for a supplier to meet NGK expectations.
- Checks requisitions for appropriate approval and account numbers including Capital Expenditure Requests (CER). Ensures compliance with current Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and Policy compliance.
- Works closely with Shipping/Receiving department to ensure proper supplies arrived.
- Complies with safety and corporate guidelines on business ethics including items of
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). Considers supply origins in order meet CSR requirements.
- Maintains contracts and agreements for all purchasing activities.
III. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
A. The Purchasing Manager has supervisory responsibilities for the Purchasing area.

V. REQUIRED AND PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
A. Required Education and/or Experience
- Bachelor's degree from a 4-year college or relevant industry experience may be
considered. Proven track record in procurement management.
10 years of experience in the purchasing field.
Experience with global procurement, logistics, and supply chain management.
Professional certification is helpful.
Must be able to work with confidential information.
Must have excellent organizational and interpersonal skills including the ability to work with members on all levels of the company and with outside vendors.
Strong knowledge of ISO and IATF. Automotive supply chain experience is a plus.
Experience with global supply chain culture and business practices.
B. Required Language Skills
Ability to read and write legibly.
Ability to communicate with parent company expatriates (Japan) in writing and verbally.
Ability to write reports and correspondence.
C. Required Mathematical Skills
- Ability to add and subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and
percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
D. Required Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions in written, oral or diagram form.
Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Ability to reason with multiple cultures.
Other Required Skills
Proficient with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
Ability to work with an electronic procurement system.

VII. WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to work in typical office conditions. The candidate may attend meetings in on-site meeting areas. The candidate may occasionally observe operational problems that related to purchasing of parts, goods, and/or services.
The noise level in the office work environment is usually moderate.
Plant floor conditions can be loud, dirty, and faced paced requiring Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
VIII. SAFETY REQUIREMENTS/PPE
A. Safety shoes must be worn while on NGK property.
B. Safety glasses must be worn while on the NGK plant floor.
C. PPE is generally not required while performing the duties of this job.
