Operations Technician Trainee (Vacation Relief Operator)

Work as 5th Operator on days (Monday - Thursday) to assist with daily operations tasks (permitting, line-ups, etc.) when there is no overtime to be covered. Will be required to shift schedule to cover Operations overtime as needed (days/nights/weekends).

Essential Functions

  • Do visual walk throughout 1st thing in the morning and air monitoring (LEL) and periodically to ensure areas are safe to work in before issuing any permits.
  • Prepare equipment/units etc. for setups. Ensure that work packages are correct for the required lineup; put info tags for blinds need to be installed or removed, per work packages.
  • Shutdown planning, making sure that equipment is getting prepped properly; lock out tag out is in order for the shutdown work.
  • Subject matter expert in permitting, lock out tag out. Review employees that are training in the permit and lock out tag out process, to make sure they are meeting all the required criteria. This will determine the final sign off document to insure the employee has been trained properly to me our requirements.
  • Able to work will all contractors, for normal maintenance work or repairs or new construction.
  • Work with management to ensure mechanical integrity and relief valves are current on inspection.
  • Oversee SWP inventory and ensure integrity of process in kept.
  • Keep current on all equipment so troubleshooting assistance can be done. (have good trouble shooting skills)
  • Have good communications skills
  • Keep with plant process schedule, this dictates to workload and planning.
  • Uses process knowledge and skills to make improvement in plant performance and operating fields.
  • Attends safety meetings regularly to bring up or listen to any issues that enhance plant and personnel safety.
  • Will need schedule flexibility to cover overtime on nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Permits required to issue and approve: Confine space entry, high energy hot work, low energy hot work, general safe work permit. Permits with energy control and line equipment opening. Need to be able to know about High voltage permitting, also excavation permits requirements.
  • Participate in safety meetings and discussions
  • Working knowledge of plant and processes (columns, utilities, & auxiliary units)
  • Be qualified as a Tech III or qualify within 90 days of accepting position with the expectation to become board qualified to cover all Operations positions (outside & inside)
  • Expectation to work as a step-up when covering for a Lead Operator

Education Qualifications

  • Required High School or Equivalent Graduate or General Education Degree (GED)

Experience Qualifications

  • Required General Plant experience
  • Preferred Manufacturing experience is a plus
  • Preferred Prior Military (with Honorable Discharge) is a plus
  • SME Permitting of general/ high hot work/ Confine space/ LOTO

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to compile, read, and compute, and interpret data
  • Basic computer skills and a comfort level in working with computers are necessary
  • Self-motivated and ability to work well with others
  • Candidate must be able to pass the pre-employment test
  • Able to obtain TWIC Card and pass background check.
  • New hires will also be evaluated under a 30/60/90 day probationary period
  • Process Technology degree

Licenses and Certifications

  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license Required

Working Conditions/Physical Demands

  • Walking. Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long periods of time, up to 12 hours per day.
  • Sitting. Working from a seated position for up to 12 hours per day.
  • Climbing. Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, ramps and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms multiple times per day.
  • Balancing. Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling and walking, standing or crouching on narrow or slippery surfaces.
  • Stooping. Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist.
  • Kneeling. Bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees.
  • Crouching. Bending the body downward and forward by bending legs and spine.
  • Reaching. Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
  • Pushing. Using upper extremities to press against something with steady force, exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force consistently to move objects in order to thrust forward, downward or outward.
  • Pulling. Using upper extremities to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force consistently in order to draw, haul or tug objects in a sustained motion.
  • Lifting. Raising objects up to 50 pounds occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds consistently from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position-to-position.
  • Grasping. Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.
  • Subject to environmental conditions. Activities occur inside and outside.
  • Subject to extreme heat. Temperatures above 100 for periods of more than one hour.
  • Subject to vibration. Exposure to movements of the extremities or whole body. Operate/drive utility vehicle
  • Subject to hazards. Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals.
  • Must be able to wear appropriate PPE for tasks as required. FRC uniform, hard hat, safety toe work boots, respiratory protection, safety glasses, chemical googles, face shield, gloves etc.
