JOB DESCRIPTION:

Hansen Agri-PLACEMENT is searching for a Farm/Building Manager for this Montana working ranch. The Farm/Building manager is responsible for making the needed winter cow feed and servicing the background lot for developing 700+ heifer calves December through May. Pivots irrigated alfalfa and flood irrigated grass are spread between ranches. This position is supported by a crew of seasonal workers and H2A workers from Mexico. Good communication skills are imperative, particularly during the two cuttings of hay in the summer.

The ranch has 8 homes for employees, an owner s house and a lodge. The Farm/Building manager will familiarize themselves with all homes and perform the maintenance and upkeep needed. This position will work with local contractors on jobs requiring special skills/tools: roofing, plumbing, electrical, etc.

Role and Responsibilities

Farm Manager:

- Pivot irrigation and regular maintenance of pivots

- Management of seasonal crews

- Strategic use of fertilizer on a variety of forage crops: grass, alfalfa, cereal forages

- Harvesting a diverse crop of hay with late model John Deere equipment

- Work closely with ranch manager on cropping plan

- Record keeping: water and electrical use per pivot, hay yields, fertilizer use

- Maintenance on all ranch equipment: tractors, swathers, balers, dump truck, excavator, bale processors, mixer wagon, SxS s etc.

- Mixing and feeding TMR to 700 calves in backgrounding lot December-May

- Pump, pipeline and tank maintenance on extensive stockwater system

Building Manager:

- Work closely with ranch manager to maintain buildings and landscaping throughout the year

- Siding, roofs, driveways, ponds, landscape irrigation, etc.
