Job summary:
Under general direction, performs field inspections of all commercial, industrial, institutional, and residential structures for compliance with related codes and regulations. Prescribes action for conformance to codes and standards. Assists in the planning and implementation of owner-occupied and rental housing rehabilitation programs.
Minimum Education, Experience, Certification/Licensure, Other:
Associate's degree from an accredited educational institution and one year of related experience; or three years of related experience and/or equivalent combination of education and experience. International Code Council Residential Building Inspector (B1) certification required within 12 months of hire. Additionally, International Code Council Commercial Building Inspector (B2) certification or Residential Mechanical Inspector (M1) certification, or , Residential Electrical Inspector (E1) certification or Commercial Electrical Inspector (E2) certification, or Residential Plumbing Inspector (P1) certification required within 12 months of hire as established and documented at time of hire. Valid State of Iowa driver's license with satisfactory driving record. Must be 18 years of age. Must pass criminal background check.
Preferred Education, Experience, Certification/Licensure, Other:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited educational institution; or four years of related experience and/or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in construction/building trades. International Code Council Inspector designation as Building Inspector (B5), Electrical Inspector (E5), Mechanical Inspector (M5), Plumbing Inspector (P5), or Residential Combination Inspector (R5), or Plans Examiner (R3, B3, E3, M3, P3).
