Cybersecurity Architect

Location: NIH Rockville, MD (Hybrid: 3 Days Onsite / 2 Days Remote)

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Cybersecurity Architect to support a federal contractThe ideal candidate will play a critical role in designing, implementing, and maintaining secure cloud-based systems, with a particular focus on the Azure cloud environment . This is a hybrid position requiring 3 days onsite and 2 days remote each week.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop and maintain cybersecurity architecture and documentation for NIH s Azure-based systems.

  • Design and implement security frameworks, controls, and best practices in accordance with NIST, FISMA, and NIH-specific policies.

  • Conduct risk assessments and threat modeling for cloud-hosted applications and infrastructure.

  • Collaborate with IT, DevOps, and cloud teams to ensure secure system architecture and integration.

  • Provide expert guidance on access control, data protection, network security, and incident response.

  • Ensure compliance with federal cybersecurity standards and support security audits and reviews.

  • Lead security reviews of new technologies and tools introduced into the NIH environment.

  • Stay current with evolving cybersecurity threats, mitigation techniques, and government compliance requirements.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor s or Master s degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or related field.

  • 10+ years of experience in cybersecurity roles, with at least 5 + years as a Security Architect .

  • Experience working in federal government environments , preferably at NIH or other HHS agencies.

  • Strong knowledge of Azure security architecture , tools, and services (e.g., Azure Defender, Sentinel, Security Center).

  • Familiarity with NIST 800-53 , FISMA , FedRAMP , and RMF frameworks.

  • Proficiency in cloud-native security , identity and access management (IAM) , network segmentation , and zero trust architecture .

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Certifications preferred: CISSP, CCSP, Azure Security Engineer (AZ-500), or similar .
