Project Manager & Assistant Project Manager Substation Design Projects

Our client is seeking a Project Manager and Assistant Project Manager to join their growing project site office in Phoenix, Arizona. These roles will be responsible for managing substation design projects ranging from 12-kV to 500-kV. A strong entrepreneurial mindset and proven leadership abilities are essential for success.
Key Responsibilities (Project Manager):
- Manage, direct, and coordinate all aspects of brownfield substation, switching station, and renewable interconnection projects.
- Oversee projects from concept through completion, including siting, permitting, environmental review, engineering, right-of-way acquisition, construction management, and project closeout.
- Develop and maintain project schedules, manage scope, and control costs.
- Serve as the primary liaison with clients, ensuring alignment on strategic planning, budgeting, staffing, environmental compliance, and scheduling.
- Support and enforce compliance with our client's safety programs and collaborate to ensure strong health and safety performance on-site.
- Assist with client relationships, proposals, and project-related communication.
- Support construction management activities, including site mobilization/demobilization planning.
- Manage permit acquisition, subcontractor qualification, RFP development, bid evaluations, and contract documentation.
- Oversee and support project controls, including cost reporting, schedule tracking, WBS development, and field progress.
- Administer contracts, RFIs, submittals, change orders, and dispute mitigation.
- Monitor insurance, licenses, taxes, and legal compliance for all stakeholders.
- Facilitate audits, materials management, safety and quality reviews, and compliance tracking.
- Participate in the turnover, documentation, and close-out processes.
- Provide regular progress, risk, cost, and schedule updates to internal and external stakeholders.
- Maintain strong project documentation and adherence to company procedures.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited program.
- Minimum of 7 years of high-voltage substation experience, with at least 3 years in a project management role.
- PE license preferred; PMP certification is a plus.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
- Ability to effectively manage diverse stakeholders including clients, contractors, and regulatory agencies.
- Willingness to travel up to 15%; valid driver's license required.
