IAM Hourly represented employees who currently work at the main (Sunnyvale/Palo Alto) unit, Santa Cruz, VAFB or Eastern Range facilities must apply to open requisitions on Brass Ring to be considered for the position.

This occupation requires the modification, maintenance and operation of powered transportation vehicles such as cranes, and mobile missile ground handling and support equipment; the installation, repair, maintenance and operation of machine tools, fabrication machines, proof test equipment, plant machinery and mechanical equipment.

Supports AIM and Missile Transporting operations.

Periodically inspects the above to determine and perform the repair, maintenance, and corrosion control necessary to prevent functional breakdowns.

Determines methods and sequence of operations, dismantles, diagnoses trouble, repairs, tunes up, mechanically services, reassembles, installs and tests vehicles, equipment and machinery to include hydraulic and pneumatic equipment.

Replaces and installs pistons, rings, valves, bearings, crankshafts, transmissions, differentials, ignition systems, clutches, hydraulic cylinders. Rebuilds carburetors, starter motors, generators.

Inspects, repairs, and operates trucks and trailers per DOT compliance.

Maintains the Hazardous Waste collection and Satellite holding areas per Federal, State and Customer regulations.

Performs proof test/load operations on forklifts, cranes, man lifts, lifting slings, cradles, shackles and other associated lifting equipment as required.

Works from any type of authorized engineering information, drawing, specifications, manufacturers manuals, verbal and written instructions.

Assists mechanics in other fields of specialization as required.

May be required to perform set-up and operation of machine tools and fabrication machines to make new parts or to rework parts as required. Perform repairs on radiator requiring silver soldering and the utilization of acetylene torch for removal and extraction of parts. In order to hold this classification an employee must possess all certifications and or licenses required.
May require the ability to handle program peculiar equipment/material.
Must have the proper classification of commercial Drivers License required by the State of Florida to operate material handling equipment normally used by employees in this classification. Florida Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL), the ability to operate a tractor-trailer and a clean driving record.
Understanding of, and experience with, maintaining various types of gas, diesel, propane and electrically powered vehicles and equipment.
Experience with troubleshooting and repair of electrical, mechanical and hydraulic systems on automotive type vehicles and forklifts.
Basic computer skills are required for performing parts research, parts ordering and completion of company required training courses.
Ability to apply knowledge of automotive shop theory and practice.
Ability to read and interpret manufacturers' specifications, diagrams, schematics and symbols.
Certifications from the Automotive Service Excellence (ASE).
Experience with replacing tires on multi-piece rims and with removal and replacement of vehicle brakes.
Experience with troubleshooting and repair of Air Conditioning systems.
Ability to independently perform and assist other mechanics with preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, modification, installation and operation of transportation vehicles, material handling equipment and plant machinery/equipment. These typically include automobiles, vans, trucks, forklifts, tractor-trailers, and miscellaneous material handling equipment. At times, assist with the assembly/disassembly of furniture and installation of office items (e.g.: white boards, wall hung monitors, etc).
