Client is seeking an experienced and highly detail-oriented Construction Estimator to join their team and support specialized federal and niche construction projects.
This is not your standard commercial estimating role their work is complex, fast-paced, and demands a keen eye for detail and accuracy in reading and interpreting plans. The ideal candidate will bring 10+ years of field and estimating experience, have deep expertise across multiple trades, and be confident in identifying discrepancies in bid documents.
Prepare detailed and accurate estimates for federal, civil, structural, and specialty construction projects
Analyze and interpret architectural, civil, MEP, and structural plans for errors and inconsistencies
Collaborate with the Bid Coordinator and Project Management team to develop competitive and compliant proposals
Break down plans and specs to develop line-item, unit price, and quantity takeoffs
Develop pricing strategies that are both competitive and realistic, aligning with project scopes and margins
Assist in identifying project risks, constructability issues, and budget challenges
Review subcontractor and supplier quotes for completeness and alignment with project specifications
Stay current with market pricing, materials, and labor rates
Support pre-construction efforts and attend site visits when required
Qualifications:
10+ years of experience in construction estimating (preferably 1520 years overall in the industry)
Strong working knowledge of MEP, carpentry, concrete, structural steel, and civil trades
Proven success in federal construction estimating is highly preferred
Experience with line-item and unit price books (e.g., RSMeans or similar tools)
Exceptional plan reading and interpretation skills with the ability to spot omissions and conflicts
Ability to work independently and support senior leadership (Marie will have final pricing authority)
Competitive mindset with a drive to win bids without sacrificing accuracy or quality
Strong organizational, time management, and communication skills
Proficiency with industry-standard estimating software (e.g., Bluebeam, On-Screen Takeoff, Sage Estimating, etc.)
Nice to Have:
Experience with federal procurement processes, including FAR compliance
Familiarity with GSA schedules, military base projects, or government facilities
Previous work on niche and unique construction projects (not cookie-cutter commercial)
