Required Qualifications

Education & Experience

• High School diploma or GED

License

• City of Rochester Master Electricians License or equivalent, plus 3 years' experience in electrical distribution systems such as low voltage control circuits, 110 through 480 volt single and three phase systems, and medium voltage systems (15,000 volt class).
• In lieu of City of Rochester Master Electricians License or equivalent, 8 years' experience in electrical distribution systems such as low voltage control circuits, 110 through 480 volt single and three phase systems, and medium voltage systems (15,000 volt class).

Skills

• Working knowledge in the use of electrical meters and test equipment, blueprint and schematic reading, National Electrical Code, and NFPA 70E.
• Able to use power and hand tools. Able to work from step ladders up to 12 feet tall, scaffolds, and electric man-lifts up to 40 feet.
• Able to distinguish colors of electrical wire insulation and determine wire sizes.
• Able to lift 50 lbs.
• Consistently work safely following all relative OSHA, DEC and EPA standards, laws and regulations.
• Must be experienced with using a computer to access the Work Order system, email, Microsoft word processing, Excel spreadsheets, and review electrical drawings in AutoCAD format.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Must be self-motivated and have ability to work independently with minimal direction.
• Ability to take initiative, plan, prioritize, and execute a variety of repairs.
• Ability to provide leadership, guidance and coordinate the work of other staff members.
• Ability to manage relationships with customers and/or colleagues in an open, honest, direct, and respectful manner.
• While driving is not a primary function of this position, the selected candidate may occasionally be required to operate a vehicle for work-related purposes. As such, enrollment in the New York State License Event Notification Service (LENS) program will be required upon hire to ensure compliance with state safety and monitoring standards.

RIT's Facilities Management Services department is looking for a dynamic Electrician I to join the FMS Utilities Maintenance team. The Electrician I is part of the FMS Utilities Maintenance team that are responsible for the corrective and preventative maintenance of all interior and exterior electrical and fire alarm building components. This includes installing, reviewing design, overseeing contractor work, maintaining, and upgrading the electrical power and lighting control systems for the academic and residence hall buildings. They utilize the project management system, preventative maintenance system, on-line work order system, and cell phone communications to meet the electrical needs of the RIT community. They provide immediate response to electrical related emergencies and provide corrective action. They serve as a mentor and provide training and guidance to other staff.
