Kitchell is seeking a dynamic and energetic Field Engineer with commercial project experience to join our team in Phoenix, Arizona and build a long-term career at one of the most innovative and growth-oriented building companies in the United States.

The Field Engineer will support field supervision and the Project Superintendent in the coordination of Trade Partners, RFI's, submittals, field quality assurance, site safety plan, verification that work conforms to contract documents and other specific assignments as determined by the Project Superintendent.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Acquire a thorough knowledge of the project plans and specifications, estimates, schedules, critical path elements and sequencing/phasing of the project.
  • Obtain a thorough knowledge of building methods, materials, job flow and building sequence and other related concepts that were the basis for the Baseline Project Schedule.
  • Acquire knowledge of Craft/Trades means and methods of construction and maintain knowledge base by continuing education opportunities.
  • Participate in Trade Partner weekly meetings including coordination and follow-up with commitments made regarding Trade Partner coordination.
  • Review and assist in checking shop drawings for field coordination issues and coordinate the field distribution and utilization of approved shop drawings by crews in the field.
  • Build and maintain good working relationships with all architects, engineers and inspectors assigned to the project.
  • Coordinate with the project team to ensure that equipment and long lead materials arrive on the project on time. Participate in the weekly review of the Project Expediting Log with the Project Superintendent.
  • Coordinate and assist the Project Superintendent with Trade Partner pre-installation meetings, construction of mock-ups and Trade Partners site orientation meetings.
  • Ensure all submittals, RFI's and change orders are in accordance with contract documents. Update and maintain all drawing sets, specifications and logs.
  • Verify testing reports and logs, ensure compliance with specifications. Address any inconsistencies, failures and ensure proper follow-up/resolution through closeout of issues.

Education and Experience

  • This position requires a minimum of one year of field experience with a related associates or higher degree or 4 years of experience without a degree.
  • OSHA 30 certification or willing to attain within first six months of employment.

Knowledge and Skill

  • A broad knowledge of construction methods and skilled trades.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and a high level of integrity.
  • Excellent computer skills.

Work Environment

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently inspects the project and may be exposed to ongoing construction and various weather conditions while wearing personal protective equipment.
  • The noise level in the work environment may range from moderate to loud.
  • The employee is subject to both environmental conditions due to work activities occurring both inside and outside.
  • Must be willing and able to work extended hours.
  • Must be able and willing to work shift work and or off hour work.
  • Must be willing and able to work on holidays as required.
