Job Summary

The Maintenance Superintendent's role is to lead and develop employees in the operation, optimization and improvement of their daily workflow in a safe, cost effective and environmentally controlled manner.

Responsibilities & Duties

  • Ensure that EH&S requirements, guidelines, and procedures are included in maintenance plans, decision making, systems and processes.
  • Responsible for developing and operating within plant maintenance budget.
  • Manage and coach maintenance supervisors in their roles and responsibilities
  • Work directly with operations area coordinators to ensure that maintenance planning and scheduling process effectively meets the requirements of the operating units.
  • Responsible for managing the work order process through the company's CMMS system and ensuring compliance with the workflow requirements
  • Provide technical expertise and support in the troubleshooting and maintenance of process equipment as well as identifying and driving possible improvement projects.
  • Support and assist in sustaining the site's maintenance training program(s)
  • Provide machinery expertise to lead and assist with solving all equipment issues and making equipment purchases.
  • Assisting in the coordination of asset management planning, shutdowns and preventative maintenance tasks, in particular with issues that affect production reliability.
  • Ensure that nested and external contractor management processes are understood and followed.
  • Assist with turnaround scope development and planning
  • Ensure that maintenance related projects are effectively budgeted prior to commencement and all costs are monitored and controlled during implementation.
  • Set expectations, follow up with accountability and through courageous conversations effectively foster continual improvement.
  • Coordinate performance management of maintenance leadership team including conducting and recording of performance reviews.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years in chemical plant maintenance experience, including 3+ years in a supervisory role.
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in engineering or related field preferred but not required.
  • Knowledge with maintenance planning & computerized maintenance management software.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements, including OSHA, EPA standards, etc.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Highly organized, with focus on process and time management discipline.
  • Ability to work with people at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to multi-task, work under pressure and meet deadlines are required.
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills are required.
  • Excellent computer skills and attention to detail a must.
  • Knowledge of various chemical unit operations.
  • Knowledge and practice of leadership and management abilities.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

  • Willingness to work around dust, chemicals, high pressure, high temperature, loud noises, and running equipment.
  • Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in designated areas (hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, steel toed boots and hearing protection).
  • Must be able to lift as much as 25 lbs.
