This position is responsible for the electrical maintenance and service work in the Utilities Department.

Major Duties

  • Installs conduits, wires, pull boxes, switchboards, controllers, and switches required in making additions, extensions, or alterations in electrical systems.
  • Tests locates, and repairs trouble in electrical circuits and equipment; repairs and replaces defective parts in motors, generators, storage batteries, switchboards, controllers, contactors, switches, and other fixtures and appliances.
  • Maintain a stock of selected electrical supplies; prepare reports and maintain records.
  • Services, repairs, and maintains lighting, power, and heating, as assigned.
  • Performs electrical maintenance and service work.
  • Installs or repairs SCADA fixtures, power outlets, and switches.
  • Maintains and repairs air conditioning unit.
  • Performs any other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of modern SCADA procedures and methods including computers and applicable software.
  • Knowledge of national electrical codes.
  • Knowledge of installation of emergency backup generators.
  • Knowledge of the standard practices, methods, tools, and materials of the electrical trade.
  • Ability to meet schedules and deadlines of the work.
  • Ability to maintain the confidentiality of information and professional boundaries.
  • Ability to work from drawings and specifications.
  • Ability to perform strenuous and routine work.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must have a high school diploma or GED certificate from an accredited institution.
  • At least five (5) years of electrical work experience.
  • Valid Texas Journeyman Electrician License.
  • Valid Texas Driver's License.

  • If the applicant holds an out-of-state license, a State of Texas Driver's License must be obtained prior to employment.

Complexity/Scope of Work

  • The work consists of related electrical maintenance and repair duties. Electrical hazards contribute to the complexity of the position.
  • The purpose of this position is to install, repair, and maintain electrical systems in county facilities. Success in this position ensures safe and well-maintained electrical systems.

Physical Demands/Work Environment

Occasionally

  • Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like.
  • Moving self in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments including tight and confined spaces.
  • Remaining in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods.
  • Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another.
  • Adjusting or moving objects up to 50 pounds in all directions.
  • Operating machinery and/or power tools.
