The Opportunity

Assist in the overall operations and management of a luxurious A Class multi-tenant facility in Schaumburg, IL. Administer solutions pertaining to maintenance, identify building issues and implement efficient solutions. Provide hands-on service in the areas of light repairs, painting, signage, drywall, carpet, exterior ground door and general upkeep. Work with the management team to improve processes in- order to maintain the property in mint condition.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities of the Building Engineer

We're looking for a dependable, mechanically inclined Building Engineer to join our facilities team at a commercial property. This role focuses on keeping building systems running efficiently while delivering responsive support to tenants and ensuring operational excellence across the property.

  • Support leadership with the daily operations of all building systems, which includes hard surface maintenance and repair, basic carpentry, and metal work, operating, maintaining and repairing all facility system equipment associated with HVAC operations and mechanical and electrical systems
  • Respond to customer requests and submit and close work orders as necessary and perform other duties as assigned
  • Maintains and performs repairs to buildings, utilities, grounds, and equipment
  • Maintains continuous operations of equipment by trouble shooting and repairing
  • Provide hands-on training and collaboration with other engineering team members
  • Fosters a work environment that promotes energy conservation and continuous improvement of engineering functions
  • Records all pertinent data in building logbooks and makes all appropriate daily entries
  • Conducts utility and equipment tests
  • Records pertinent data on all equipment in accordance with federal, state, and local codes and requirements
  • Process administrative paperwork in accordance with departmental policies and procedures
  • Demonstrates commitment to quality of service
  • Complies with corporate facility policies and procedures
  • Complies and participates in facility specific safety program
  • Maintains regular attendance in the workplace
  • Provides the highest quality of service to the tenants, staff, and visitors at the facility
  • Participate in regular required communication with Chief Engineer, management, tenants, and other staff
  • Monitor building automation and energy management systems.
  • Complete work orders and service requests in a timely and professional manner
  • Inspect building systems daily to ensure optimal performance.
  • Assist with seasonal changeovers and equipment startups/shutdowns (e.g., boilers, chillers, cooling towers)
  • Maintain mechanical rooms and equipment areas in clean, safe conditions.
  • Provide support for vendors, contractors, and capital projects.
  • Document maintenance activities, inspections, and inventory usage.
  • Participate in after-hours emergency response and rotating on-call coverage.

Education and Expertise:

  • As required, a high-level relevant state / local license for Stationary Engineer and / or HVAC, plus universal level refrigerant recovery license
  • Computer skills and building automation systems experience required
  • Certification meeting OSHA ACM awareness training requirements as required

Requirements:

  • 2+ years of experience in commercial building maintenance or facilities.
  • Familiar with HVAC systems, BAS controls, and general building operations.
  • Strong troubleshooting and mechanical skills.
  • Comfortable using digital CMMS/work order systems.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs, climb ladders, and work in mechanical spaces.
  • High school diploma or equivalent; trade school a plus EPA 608 certification preferred.
  • Valid driver's license
