The City of Sugar Land is seeking a full-time Electrician in the Utilities Department.

As a Electrician, you will:

  • Operate a City vehicle daily to travel to various water and wastewater treatment plants, pump stations, storage tanks, surface and ground water locations and vendors.
  • Investigate complaints and assist with maintenance of motor control cabinets for electric motors ranging from 75 hp to 600 hp (including starters, variable frequency drives and breakers)
  • Investigate and assist with the repair and troubleshooting of wastewater lift station control panels, 230V/480V systems, 3-phase and single-phase electrical components
  • Perform effective electrical troubleshooting to identify hazards or malfunctions and repair or substitute damaged units
  • Perform routine maintenance on electrical wiring and systems
  • Install, repair, perform diagnostic evaluations, and service all types of metering devices, receivers, transmitters and process control systems supporting water and wastewater functions
  • Work may involve evening, weekends, holidays and overtime
  • Work as an essential employee before, during and after an emergency or disaster
  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as directed by management.

Experience:

  • Minimum two (2) years of experience in operations, maintenance and repair of water and wastewater facilities or relatable field, or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

Education:

  • Graduation from High School or GED certificate.

License or Certificate:

  • Valid license as an Electrician Apprentice in accordance with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulations is required
  • Valid Texas driver's license
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a Class D Water License from the State of Texas within one year of employment is required.
