Position Summary
The Facilities Operations Manager is a key member of the University Housing and Residential Life (UHRL) Facilities team and reports to the Assistant Director of Facilities Operations.
This position oversees housekeeping operations and services across Temple University's on-campus housing, which serves more than 5,000 students and guests and encompasses over 2 million square feet of residential and community space. The role also participates in a 24/7/365 administrative emergency on-call rotation for housing and dining facilities.
The Facilities Operations Manager is responsible for managing either the north or south residential area of campus in partnership with a second manager. This position directly supervises approximately 20 full-time service staff during the academic year and up to 40 full-time service staff during the summer months to support building turnover and a high-volume
summer conference guest schedule. The role also includes co-supervision of Senior Facilities Specialist to support inspections, project coordination, and provide seven-day operational coverage.
Key responsibilities include conducting facility inspections, overseeing work order distribution, ensuring compliance with codes and standards, managing inventory and supply distribution, coordinating staff training and development, and delivering high-quality housekeeping operations to serve the needs of the student population. The Facilities Operations Manager also supports strategic planning by advising senior leadership on staffing, equipment, and resource needs to optimize efficiency and service.
Performs other duties as assigned.
This position requires the following background checks & clearances: drivers license check, PA State Police Criminal ground, PA Child Abuse History Clearance, Federal FBI Fingerprint Criminal ground
Required Education and Experience
* Bachelor's degree
* At least three (3) years of directly related experience supervising in a union work environment
* An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Preferred Experience
* Experience working in Higher Education environments.
Required Skills and Abilities
* Excellent organizational skills, along with the ability to work independently and efficiently.
* Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, along with the ability to effectively interact with a diverse population of students, parents and staff.
* Demonstrated experience, developing, mentoring and motivating a supervisory team.
* Ability to manage multiple collaborative projects and systems in a fast-paced environment.
* Knowledge of Pennsylvania Building & Energy Codes.
* Knowledge of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Code and Standards, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Pennsylvania Accessibility Code, National Electrical Code (NEC), and all codes associated with Asbestos and Hazardous wastes.
* Understanding of the objectives of higher education.
