and Essential Function Under the general supervision of the Facilities HVAC Shop Supervisor, the HVAC Technician I is an entry-level tradesperson who supports the installation, maintenance, and repair of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVAC/R) systems throughout the facility. Working under the guidance of HVAC II and III team members, this role performs routine maintenance, basic repairs, and fundamental troubleshooting of HVAC equipment. All tasks are conducted in accordance with applicable codes, safety regulations, and healthcare standards to help maintain a safe, efficient, and comfortable environment for patients, team members, and visitors. Job Responsibilities Included, but not limited to: Assist in performing routine maintenance on HVAC and refrigeration systems, including filters, belts, motors, and coils. Support installation of new HVAC equipment and ductwork following specifications and building codes. Conduct basic inspections and report unusual conditions or system malfunctions to shop supervisor. Help troubleshoot HVAC equipment with guidance, including thermostats, air handlers, and split systems. Maintain daily logs, documentation, and service records for work performed. Ensure work areas are clean, safe, and organized after maintenance activities. Assist in responding to routine temperature complaints and requests from building occupants. Monitor HVAC systems and report alarms or irregularities to shop supervisor. Follow established safety procedures and ensure compliance with HVAC codes and regulations. Interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and job specifications for HVAC work. Ensure all work complies with infection prevention protocols, Joint Commission standards, and fire/life safety regulations. Perform routine maintenance and inspections of HVAC systems under supervision. Troubleshoot minor HVAC issues and report findings to HVACs II, III or Supervisor. Maintain tools and equipment in clean, safe, and operational condition. Document work performed, materials used in the CMMS and follow preventive maintenance schedules. Respond to basic service requests in a timely and professional manner. Assist during emergency responses or facility repairs. Collaborate with Facilities Engineering's other trades (plumbing, electric) to support integrated projects. Respond to work orders, emergencies, and on-call duties as required. Respond to emergency calls outside of regular work hours when required. Other duties as assigned by Management. Minimum Education and/or Experience Requirements: Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Completion of a vocational program or technical training in HVAC work. HVAC apprenticeship or relevant technical certifications preferred. Experience: Knowledge of industry standards and regulations such as: CMS, NJDOH, Joint Commission, NFPA 99 and OSHA. Familiarity with infection control practices in healthcare settings. Basic understanding of HVAC control systems. Basic understanding of the daily operations of departments supported (medical center, offsite practice, etc.). Knowledge of HVAC techniques, materials, tools, and test equipment. Knowledgeable in the use of HVAC PPE and protective equipment. Knowledgeable in the use of CMMS. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Effective communication and organizational skills. Basic familiarity with building codes, regulations, and safety protocols, especially within healthcare settings. Certifications/Licensure: EPA 608 Certification (Type I or Universal), Valid driver's license required OSHA 1030 certificate
