Senior Web Traffic Engineer
Responsibilities:
Lead day-to-day operations and advanced configuration of the NGINX Plus platform to ensure optimal performance, scalability, and availability.
Manage and fine-tune Fastly CDN configurations using VCL, edge logic, and caching strategies to enhance global content delivery.
Collaborate with security teams to integrate and optimize Kasada bot mitigation, ensuring seamless operation with NGINX and effective threat management.
Architect traffic routing solutions across NGINX Plus, Azure cloud infrastructure, and Fastly, supporting both new and existing applications.
Automate platform deployment and configuration using Ansible, Python, and Jenkins, embedding solutions within CI/CD frameworks.
Proactively monitor and manage platform security, including SSL/TLS certificate lifecycle and WAF policies at the edge.
Provide technical mentorship and develop documentation for operational procedures and platform best practices.
Act as the primary incident lead for web traffic issuesdriving real-time troubleshooting, communicating updates, and coordinating resolution efforts.
Deliver executive-level communication during incidents, articulating impact, progress, and action plans without excessive technical jargon.
Lead post-incident RCA investigations, authoring blameless post-mortem reports and presenting findings to drive continuous improvement.
Ensure all system documentation is up to date and detailed enough to enable cross-team support or vendor escalation.
Maintain high availability via phone during incident escalations to ensure timely updates and engagement.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related technical discipline.
8+ years of experience in cloud infrastructure, DevOps, or network/systems engineering with a strong focus on web traffic and delivery platforms.
Deep hands-on expertise with NGINX Plus, including production deployments, performance tuning, advanced configuration, and load balancing.
Proven experience with Fastly CDN and VCL, with a strong understanding of edge caching and compute logic.
Exposure to Kasada or other bot mitigation solutions is preferred.
Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Azure, including Application Gateways, Auto-scaling, and network load balancing.
Proficient in automation and scripting using Python and Ansible.
Experience integrating traffic management and deployment processes into CI/CD pipelines (e.g., with Jenkins, Git, Terraform) is a plus.
Strong verbal and written communication skills, particularly in high-pressure environments like incident response and RCA presentations.
