Job Summary
Provide both Administrative and field supervision of bargaining unit technicians in the SCG Meter & Service Department. The Meter & Service department is responsible for emergency response, meter manifold installation and upgrades, customer turn on and turn-off, customer service-related work, natural gas piping surveys (inside line inspections & Business District Surveys) and residential and commercial regulator inspections. The supervisor is responsible for the safety compliance, integrated planning and scheduling, adherence to regulatory compliance schedules for a multitude of daily activities, execution of fieldwork, productivity performance, coaching, training, mentoring, and various administrative duties for their perspective technicians. Interacts to resolve customer related issues and concerns (external and internal) ensuring overall customer satisfaction. Ensures area coverage by technicians to meet all emergency response and customer appointments.
You will prepare and execute field activities, as well as coordinate and schedule these operations. Supervisor Customer Charged Service is responsible for the adherence of all construction and maintenance activities and are performed in accordance with meter work procedures (including leak and CO detection response), Gas Operations and Maintenance Manual (O&M), SCG Construction Standards, approved policies, regulatory procedures, safety rules and approved budgets. Supervisor Customer Charged Service communicates with customers and community officials as well as State of Connecticut Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURA) concerning all aspects of utility operations and compliance, maintenance, and service
Key Responsibilities
- Supervises to ensure safe and efficient operation of the daily field activities of Meter Service Technicians. This supervisor role has the responsibility for the oversight of between 10-12 field service technicians and handling hundreds of customers inquiries monthly.
- Ensure field technicians meet state regulated emergency response times associated with gas emergency odor calls and provide technical support for the appliance/HVAC repair business.
- Provides oversight and training on all CNG/SCG standard operating procedures and the companies Operating Policies that are outlined in the companies O&M manual.
- Coordinate all company required safety trainings for direct reports, meet company key performance indicators related to field safety inspections, and complete all accident reports and investigations within company guidelines.
- Ensures that all company compliance matrixes are met with safety standards and conduct effective weekly safety meetings with the assigned field technicians.
- Champion Avangrid`s safety culture and be a role model for safety.
- Supports the needs of the revenue generating business associated to the companys customer appliance repair business.
- Supports and monitors that all service technicians have the required operator qualifications and that all OQs are kept in an active status for the responsible group.
- Ensures a mandated regulatory compliance schedule is achieved for meter & service-related activities.
- The position provides direct supervision of internal, external, and on call emergency field distribution crews. The supervisor oversees resources and personnel engaged in the operation, maintenance, and construction of the natural gas distribution system.
- Participates in the supervisory on-call rotation, which involves assigning and directing the work of unionized internal work crews.
- Exercises independent judgment while serving as the on-site supervisor during outages or other natural gas emergencies.
- Responsible for maintaining an efficient schedule and that all work is completed on a timely basis associated to the companys gas service replacement projects.
- Communicate with Customers and community officials & state regulatory staff concerning all aspects of the gas utility operations, maintenance, & service delivery.
- Administer damage claims and billing, leak reports, time sheets, store orders, work order balancing, material review, compliance with safety rules and regulations, standards of excellence and/or service guarantees. Monitor accuracy of field records (field notes, as-builts, work sketches) for auditing purposes and ensure compliance.
- Reviews and approves meter header designs including regulator set ups and designs and customer piping fitting to be completed in the field.
- Initiates, and conducts investigations concerning appropriate disciplinary action for bargaining unit employees when required. Understands and complies with the labor contract and works to resolve initial grievances.
- Conduct employee evaluations for annual performance appraisal process.
- Researches and resolves customer issues.
- Plans, schedules, assigns, and appraises activities within meter services group and all billable customer appliance associated work.
- Other responsibilities assigned by senior management
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
- Associates degree with a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience.
- High School Diploma/GED with a minimum of 10-12 years as a gas fitter or other relevant experience and the completion of the gas fitter progression program.
- Five or more years of experience in Natural Gas utility operation.
- High School Diploma / GED required
- Valid CT Drivers License
- HVAC license or certification is preferred
- Strong leadership/managerial skills required
- Must be available to support gas emergency field situations
- Knowledge of credit activities, customer service policies and CIS.
- Knowledge of state and federal rules and regulations
- Technical knowledge in gas utilization, pipe product, appliance parts, and customer service skills.
- Knowledge of NFPA 54 preferred
- Must be able to obtain NGA operator qualifications
