Job Description:
BCC Engineering, a Parsons Company is looking for an amazingly talented Bridge Inspector Assistant to join our team! In this role you will get to travel the State of Texas to inspect in-service bridges of all types .
Responsibilities:
- Conducts and/or participates in inspection activities to determine if work has been done in accordance with contract specifications.
- Performs inspection activities which may include any of the following:
- Demolition of transportation facilities (roads, streets, bridges etc.)
- Construction of roads, bridges, and other associated improvements (curb, gutter, sidewalk, landscaping, etc.)
- Drainage work, traffic control, and compliance with storm water pollution prevention plan (SWPPP) requirements
- Installation of electrical equipment related to traffic signals, ramp metering, and street lighting
- Irrigation and planting
- Roadway and overhead sign removal and installation
- Installation on temporary and permanent signs and delineation
- Installation of mechanical equipment
- Building and facility construction with associated site development
- Captures project photographs on a daily basis; file/organize
- Maintains office files related to the project, quantity calculations, and writes daily diaries.
- Prepares daily reports and other documentation, as required by the contract.
- Verifies only approved materials are incorporated in the work.
- Performs labor compliance interviews and maintains as-built plans.
- Recognizes potential issues and problems; reports to supervisor.
- Collects, reviews, and files Certificate of Compliance, Safety Data Sheets (SDS), inspection tags, and other information relevant to the materials used.
- Reports on installed quantities to verify applications for payment and change order work.
- Responds to call backs in case of emergency at the project site.
- Performs work in safe manner and is cognizant of public safety.
- Performs other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.
Skills and Competencies:
- Familiarity with public works contracts and construction related processes
- Ability to read and interpret plans and specifications
- Effective time management skills to proactively prepare for work assignment
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Knowledge of English grammar and composition
- Ability to prepare written diaries and reports
- Basic math skill including familiarity with simple engineering calculations, graphs, and charts
- Familiarity with basic computer applications and usage to include Microsoft Office, Project Management Software, and internet search engines (like Google or equivalent)
- Ability to understand and comply with project requirements as applicable based on client and industry standards
- Basic understanding of scheduling, and the ability to review progress pay estimates and extra work bills
- Ability to recognize hazardous work conditions
- Ability to work cohesively in a team and/or dynamic work environment
- Ability to climb ladders, inspect work above ground, and work in confined spaces
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. (i.e. lifting materials used for testing of concrete, AC, etc.)
- Available for up to 50% out of town travel (expenses paid)
- Willing to work outside in all weather conditions
Required Qualifications:
- High School Diploma and Associate's Degree in a technical discipline/construction-related field, or equivalent work experience
- 1+ years of related experience on field projects
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with bridge safety inspections
Licenses and Certifications:
- Valid Drivers License and a clear driving record
- Must have or be able to obtain within 12 months some or all of the following certifications, as determined by job assignments: TxDOT Hot Mix Asphalt Specialist Certification (Level 1A / Level 1B), , ACI certification Strength, ACI Certification Grade 1, Materials Analyst Specialist Certification (SB101 / SB102), Qualified Compliance Inspector of Stormwater (QCIS) (for TDPES permit); National Highway Institute (NHI) training course # 130055, Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges or # 130056, "Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges for Professional Engineers"
