The University of Virginias Facilities Management has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Plumber Professional in our McCormick Zone group, which supports Facilities Management's goal of providing consistent, cost-effective, reliable Plumbing and maintenance to the Arts and Engineering Research community.
Senior Plumbers are responsible for similar duties as Plumbers; however, they operate with advanced skill and independence. Senior Plumbers direct, lead, and perform a wide variety of advanced repair, installation, and maintenance tasks to plumbing fixtures and related equipment. They are responsible for independently installing, repairing, and replacing complex plumbing equipment, while providing technical guidance to lower-level Plumbers, Assistants and Apprentices.
Responsibilities:
Diagnose plumbing problems and perform repairs as required. Perform preventative maintenance on all plumbing systems and update or repair the systems as necessary.
Lay out piping systems; install proper hangers and support systems. Install pipefitting in compliance with applicable codes and construction documents.
Foster a safe work environment by instructing and monitoring compliance of OSHA, federal, state, and local regulations, and applicable building codes.
Respond to requests from the University community and address plumbing problems.
Inform customers of job status, reasons for and duration of expected delays, as well as refer customers to the supervisor when appropriate.
Ensure that all safety equipment and personal protective equipment are used.
Assist supervisor coordinating daily assignments.
Train and oversee Assistant and Apprentice work.
Experience working in a Research or Healthcare Facility is preferred.
In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.
Minimum Required Qualifications:
Education : High school diploma or equivalent
Experience : Seven years of experience. Experience working in a Research or Healthcare environment, and Medical Gas, RO/DI water experience preferred.
Licensure: Journey or Master level plumbing license Backflow Endorsement, Valid Driver's License required.
Compensation: Anticipated Hiring Range for this position is $29 $34 per hour ($60,320 - $70,720 Annually). This is a full-time non-exempt position with UVA benefits .
For this position, the selected candidate will need to complete the required background checks prior to the start date of the position. This position is based in Charlottesville, VA, and must be performed fully on-site.
Physical Demands: Employee must be able to variously sit, stand, walk, climb stairs and ladders, crawl, stoop, bend, squat, lift, pull, and use both hands-on repetitive tasks (including overhead tasks). Employee must have normal vision and hearing (correctable), and for some areas of employment, color vision and sense of smell.
On-call rotation, emergency response and snow removal will be required.
