Roofer positions apply various types of roofs that are built with composition shingles and shakes, modified bitumen, thermoplastic, vulcanized, and non-vulcanized elastomers; install flashing(s); repair all types of roofs; repair, replace, and install roof sheathing, fascia boards, and roof vents; install downspouts and rain gutters; apply reflective roof coatings and undercoating; install flat sheet roof insulation material on roofs; hoist roofing materials and tools to roofs; operate a variety of vehicles; and perform other duties as assigned.

- E ligible benefitted employees originally hired on or after July 10, 2021, will be automatically enrolled in the San Diego City Employees Retirement System (SDCERS).
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE : You must meet ONE of the following options:
- Three years of full-time experience in all phases of work as a journey-level Roofer. Qualifying experience MUST include hot roofing work in the following areas: built-up roof application, torch-on single-ply roof application, application of various types of shingles, and location and repair of roof leaks.
- Successful completion of a state-accredited three-year Roofer Apprenticeship Program.
- An equivalent combination of experience and apprenticeship training as specified above equaling three years.
- City of San Diego employees using Out-of-Class Assignment (OCA) experience to qualify must submit written documentation signed by their appointing authority or payroll specialist, detailing the work performed, dates, and total number of qualifying OCA hours. OCA experience without the required documentation will NOT be considered.

- Proof of apprenticeship completion, if utilized to meet the minimum requirements.
- Proof of apprenticeship transcripts/hours of completion, if utilized to meet the minimum requirements.
