Electrical Inspector

Performs intermediate-skilled technical work inspecting residential and commercial buildings for compliance with county ordinances and state building codes, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the general direction of the Building Codes Administrator.
Performs field inspections and reinspection's of residential facilities for compliance with building, plumbing, mechanical and electrical codes. Issues warnings and stop work orders if necessary where construction is not being conducted in compliance with regulations as to methods and/or materials. Answers questions from citizens, contractors and builders in regards to building code regulations. Prepares reports and keeps records regarding inspections. Abides by, enforces and participates in the implementation and ongoing oversight of Randolph County Government safety standards and regulations.
High school diploma or GED and six or more years experience working in engineering, construction management, construction, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred candidate will hold a North Carolina Unlimited or Intermediate Electrical License issued by the North Carolina State Board of Electrical Contractors, or have the required experience to qualify as an Electrical Level II or III Code Enforcement Officer with the North Carolina Code Officials Qualifications Board. Qualified candidate will be cross-trained in the Mechanical, Plumbing and Building trades as required. Must have good driving record.
