AWWU ENGINEERING DIVISION DIRECTOR - Range 23 / EXE

This is an executive position (no union affiliation) and serves at the pleasure of the Mayor of the Municipality of Anchorage.

DEPARTMENT : Anchorage Water & Wastewater Utility

HOURS OF WORK : Monday to Friday, 08:00 to 17:00

LOCATION : 3000 Arctic Boulevard

Under the general direction of the Utility General Manager, this position provides strategic leadership and oversight of AWWUs Engineering Division, including Strategic Asset Services (SAS), Planning, Project Management, and Project Support. This role is responsible for guiding infrastructure development, managing capital improvement planning and funding, overseeing the division's operational and capital budgets, ensuring regulatory compliance, and coordinating with internal and external stakeholders. It also includes supervision of division staff, promoting employee development, and aligning engineering initiatives with Utility-wide goals. Perform other duties as assigned.

Participate in major emergencies or disasters as outlined in AWWUs disaster plan matrix, which defines each employees potential duties and responsibilities. This may include 12-hour work shifts, which may continue for 72 hours or more starting at any time an event might occur, 7 days a week, 24 hours per day.High school diploma, GED, or equivalent, and twelve (12) years of experience in engineering, contract administration, accounting, program administration, utility management, managing projects or information systems, of which two (2) years have been in a supervisory or lead capacity.

OR

Associates degree in Civil Engineering, Engineering Management, Environmental Engineering, Construction Management, Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Legal Studies, Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Project Management, or a related discipline, and ten (10) years of experience in engineering, contract administration, accounting, program administration, utility management, managing projects or information systems, of which two (2) years have been in a supervisory or lead capacity

OR

Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering, Engineering Management, Environmental Engineering, Construction Management, Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Legal Studies, Computer Science, Computer Information Systems. Project Management, or a related discipline, and eight (8) years of experience in engineering, contract administration, accounting, program administration, utility management, managing projects or information systems, of which two (2) years have been in a supervisory or lead capacity.

OR

Masters degree in Civil Engineering, Engineering Management, Environmental Engineering, Construction Management, Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Legal Studies, Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Project Management, or a related discipline, and six (6) years of experience in engineering, contract administration, accounting, program administration, utility management, managing projects or information systems, of which two (2) years have been in a supervisory or lead capacity.

Must possess and/or obtain :
  • Satisfactory background check which includes criminal, education, and employment history at time of hire.
  • Valid State of Alaska drivers license and satisfactory driving record at time of hire.
  • State of Alaska Registered Professional Engineer at time of hire or within 6 months of hire date.

Preference:
  • State of Alaska Certified Erosion and Sediment Control Lead.
