Summary
The Superintendent - Ground-Up Construction is responsible for the daily operations of new construction jobsites, overseeing all aspects of field execution including schedule, production, procurement, manpower, equipment, quality, and safety. This role provides leadership and supervision to direct labor and trade partners to ensure successful, high-quality project delivery from groundbreaking through turnover.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Embodies and champions the Structure Tone Southwest culture by delivering predictable outcomes for internal and external teams, as well as clients.
- Leads with integrity by promoting honesty, unity, safety, and quality on every jobsite.
- Reviews project drawings and specifications to plan construction sequencing, start and completion timelines, and resource requirements for each phase of ground-up construction.
- Collaborates with the Project Manager to establish the master schedule and leads the development of short-term "look-ahead" schedules to track progress and address potential issues.
- Leads pre-construction meetings and jobsite mobilization planning.
- Directs procurement and ensures timely delivery of materials, equipment, and site services to support each phase of construction.
- Coordinates and oversees the work of subcontractors and suppliers to ensure adherence to scope, safety, and quality standards.
- Acts as the central point of communication between field operations, subcontractors, inspectors, engineers, and the project team.
- Leads daily huddles and weekly subcontractor meetings to align teams and maintain clear communication.
- Ensures compliance with all jobsite safety protocols and proactively identifies hazards to prevent incidents.
- Inspects all phases of work to verify conformance with drawings, quality expectations, and construction schedule.
- Works with project leadership to monitor project costs, materials usage, and labor productivity; makes real-time adjustments as needed to maintain project performance.
- Assists in the preparation and execution of the Project Management Plan (PMP).
- Upholds and enforces Structure Tone Southwest policies related to safety, quality, conduct, and equal opportunity.
- Prepares detailed daily reports documenting jobsite activity, progress, challenges, and solutions.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, or related field; or equivalent experience (minimum 5 years in ground-up commercial construction).
- Proven experience managing all phases of new vertical construction including sitework, foundations, structural systems, building envelope, and interior buildout.
- Strong knowledge of construction methods, building codes, site logistics, inspections, and permitting processes.
- Skilled in reading and interpreting blueprints, technical specifications, and shop drawings.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and coordinate multiple subcontractor trades and vendors.
- Effective planning and organizational skills with a strong focus on safety, schedule, and quality.
- Proficient in construction software and tools; CMiC experience preferred.
- OSHA 30 certification required or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.
