DEFINITION
This position performs plumber work at the journeyman level of skill under general supervision, including; assembling, installing and repairing pipes, fittings and equipment in heating, water and drainage systems, according to specifications and plumbing codes.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Lay out, assemble, install and maintain pipe systems, pipe supports and related equipment for domestic water supply systems. Coordinate, oversee, and perform plumbing maintenance, repairs, replacements and installations to County facilities. Install new plumbing and plumbing systems in remodeling and construction projects. Plan work schedules, estimate costs, order supplies, maintain work records, and prepare reports of work performed. Perform preventative maintenance on shop equipment. Perform plumber journey work in accordance with practices and procedures consistent with the plumbing trades and in compliance with applicable codes. Education, Training and Experience:
Must have equivalent of high school graduation. Must have completed an apprenticeship program approved by the Department of Workforce Development as a plumber or have formal recognition of journeyman status by the appropriate international or local trade union. Must have a minimum of three (3) years of experience in large commercial building maintenance.
Certifications/Licenses:
Must possess and maintain a Journeyman or Master Plumber license.
Special Requirements :
Facilities Management Positions: must possess (or be eligible for) a valid Drivers license. Must successfully pass a Wisconsin Department of Health Services and a Sheriffs Office background investigation which includes fingerprinting. Normal work schedule may require availability to work early mornings, evenings, weekends and holidays and availability to respond to afterhours building emergencies.

Wisconsin's Fair Employment Law, s. 111.31 111.395, Wis. Stats., prohibits discrimination because of an arrest or conviction record. Physical and Environmental Work Requirements:
Position is physically active for the entire shift. Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds unassisted, heavier loads with assistance, and 25 pounds regularly. Ability to work at heights in excess of 50 feet from safety ladders, lifts and scaffolds for sustained periods. May be required to operate heavy equipment and move furniture. Ability to see and hear within normal ranges with or without corrective devices. Ability to stand, walk, climb, stoop, twist, bend, lift, kneel, crouch, reach and work outside. Ability to walk on hard surfaces for extended periods. Ability to use hands/feet for repetitive single grasping, fine manipulation, pushing and pulling and operating controls and equipment. Ability to type, write and work a variety of hand tools. Workshop and non-workshop environments with frequent year-round exposure to all weather conditions. May experience daily exposure to temperature variations or extremes, chemicals, odors, toxic agents, noise, vibrations, wetness, machinery and/or dust which may cause discomfort but pose little risk of injury. Infrequent exposure to blood and/or body fluids.Knowledge of plumbing and building codes, safety regulations, and safety practices; skilled in the use of hand and power tools used in the plumbing trade; ability to read and follow blueprints and rough drawings; design build systems, proficient with PVC, CPVC, PEX, cast iron, copper and a variety of other piping materials, metal and nonmetal. Ability to lay out and install a variety of plumbing and piping systems and review plans to avoid obstructions and to avoid interfering with activities of other workers. Ability to size plumbing systems; install supports and pipe hangers; install, fix, repair and troubleshoot plumbing fixtures, appliances and devices. Ability to secure pipes to structure with brackets, clamps, and hangers using hand and power tools. Effective oral communication and interpersonal skills; ability to complete projects unsupervised and unassisted; excellent problem-solving skills; attention to detail and ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously; proficiency in basic mathematics and conversion of measurements.
