A leading general contractor with a strong presence in the Midwest is seeking a skilled Commercial Estimator to join its team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in preconstruction and cost estimation, particularly in commercial or public-sector construction. This is a full-time, long-term opportunity with excellent growth potential and a strong team culture.
Responsibilities:Analyze drawings, specifications, and bid documents to determine project scope and cost.
Perform detailed quantity takeoffs and develop accurate estimates for labor, materials, and equipment.
Lead bid preparation efforts for negotiated and hard-bid projects.
Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and subcontractors during the preconstruction phase.
Solicit pricing from subcontractors and suppliers; evaluate proposals for accuracy and completeness.
Maintain detailed records of cost data and historical pricing for future reference.
Recommend value engineering options and assist in scope development where needed.
Support procurement efforts and post-bid follow-ups such as change orders and estimate revisions.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred (or equivalent field experience)
4+ years of relevant estimating experience in commercial or municipal construction
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and estimating software (e.g., Bluebeam, OST, Sage Estimating)
Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and market pricing
Excellent communication and organizational skills
Ability to manage multiple estimates on tight deadlines with accuracy and professionalism
