Job Title: Sheet Metal Shop Fabricator
Job Summary:
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Metal Fabricator to join our team. The ideal candidate will support the fabrication shop by assisting with the production and assembly of sheet metal products and piping assemblies. This role involves hands-on work with machinery, tools, and materials to create high-quality products for various applications in the HVAC construction trade.
Key Responsibilities:
- Material Handling: Load, unload, and organize raw materials and finished products. Ensure proper storage and handling to maintain material integrity.
- Machine Operation Assistance: Assist in operating machinery such as plasma cutters, shears, brakes, punches, torches to solder or braze, welders, and other fabrication equipment. Follow safety protocols and standard operating procedures.
- Assembly Support: Help in the assembly of sheet metal components and piping assemblies. Use hand tools, rivets, soldering, and welding equipment as required.
- Quality Control: Inspect finished products for accuracy, quality, and adherence to specifications. Report any discrepancies or defects to the supervisor.
- Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of tools, machinery, and the work area. Report any maintenance needs or safety concerns promptly.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate records of materials used, work completed, and any issues encountered. Complete job tickets and other required documentation.
- Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety guidelines and procedures to ensure a safe working environment. Participate in safety training sessions.
Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Technical or vocational training in metal fabrication, pipe joining, or a related field is a plus.
- Experience: Previous experience in a fabrication shop or manufacturing environment is preferred but not required.
Skills:
- Basic understanding of sheet metal fabrication processes and techniques.
- Ability to safely operate various forklifts. Forklift certified preferred.
- Proficiency in MIG, TIG, and Stick welding techniques.
- Basic understanding of pipe joining processes and techniques.
- Experienced in operating computer programs.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints.
- Proficient in using hand tools and basic machinery.
- Strong attention to detail and quality.
- Good physical stamina and the ability to lift heavy materials.
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
- OSHA safety certification is a plus.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand, walk, and work in a physically demanding environment for extended periods. Ability to lift and move materials weighing up to 50 pounds. Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
Work Environment:
The work is performed in a fabrication shop setting with exposure to loud noises, machinery, and varying temperatures. Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, gloves, and ear protection are required. This position's schedule is generally four 10-hour days, but overtime is required at times to meet project schedules.
