Join the Facilities team at Vertex Education and help create safe, well-maintained learning environments that support student success. The Facilities Operations Manager plays a critical role in leading preventive maintenance strategy, supporting campus Facility Manager development, and ensuring compliance across multiple campuses. This position drives operational readiness and long-term facilities planning in close collaboration with School Operations and other departments. While the role does not include direct reports, it provides high-level guidance and oversight to campus-based Facility Managers across the network.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Financial Planning and Vendor Management:
Lead the annual and long-term facility CapEx and OpEx planning and prioritization for each campus, in collaboration with School Operations.
Oversee and analyze facility budget forecasting, spend tracking, and cost-efficiency initiatives across the network.
Oversee vendor relationships, including evaluation, contract management, and SLA performance monitoring.
Lead implementation of network-wide strategic initiatives, including new school openings, major renovations, and capital planning.
Preventive Maintenance & Asset Management:
Develop the standards for preventive maintenance protocols and schedules for major systems (HVAC, plumbing, electrical, life safety).
Support Facility Managers in implementing strategies and corrective actions to extend asset life cycles.
Oversee the asset management system and deploy standardized procedures to ensure accurate data.
Compliance, Safety & Emergency Response:
Develop network standard processes for campuses that ensure compliance with federal, state, and local facility regulations.
Create system standardized operating procedures for facility emergency response and recovery efforts; coordinate planning with Safety Director, DSO, and school administration.
Implement standardized protocols for all life-safety systems including inspection, calibration, and documentation.
Training and Capability Building:
Lead, mentor, and support a high-performing team of Facility Managers across multiple campuses.
Develop regular training in maintenance best practices, safety protocols, emergency management, and compliance.
Facilitate knowledge sharing and professional development across the network.
Data-Driven Operations & Continuous Improvement:
Leverage facilities ticketing data to detect patterns, identify systemic failures, and inform action planning.
Conduct regular scorecard reviews with School Operations to assess campus-level performance and drive continuous improvement plans.
Benchmark campus performance against internal standards and industry best practices to drive ongoing excellence.
Audit work orders and asset data for quality and compliance; identify root causes of recurring issues.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Education, Certifications & Experience :
A high school diploma or GED is required.
High school diploma or GED required; relevant facility operations coursework preferred.
7-10 years of experience in multi-site facilities operations.
Proven leadership skills with the ability to motivate and mentor team members.
Hands-on understanding of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and life safety systems.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
Strong Excel and data analysis skills; ability to interpret trends and generate actionable insights.
CFM (Certified Facility Manager) preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Regular local travel between campuses is required.
This position requires the need to lift objects (up to 50 pounds) on occasion.
This position may require standing for long periods at times, talking on the phone, standing, kneeling, stooping, and long periods of concentration.
