By joining our KYTC as a Transportation Engineer Supervisor in Nelson County, you'll have the opportunity to be a supervisor the District 4 Bardstown Section including oversight of professional and technical personnel in the construction and maintenance of highways, structures, and facilities. This position oversees roadway maintenance operations and staff for 700 miles of state-maintained roadways in Nelson, Larue and Washington counties.
Summary of Responsibilities:
- Meet with county maintenance superintendents to determine and prioritize maintenance needs.
- Prepare estimates for maintenance projects including resurfacing, guardrail, larger drainage structure and other projects that will be put out for bid.
- Review roadway construction plans and attend meetings for current and upcoming projects
- Visit maintenance and construction projects to ensure work is being performed according to plans, manuals and specifications.
- Coordinate with inspection personnel to ensure working is being performed and documented according to specifications and that material samples are being obtained, tested and documented according to specifications.
Ideal candidate will have experience in:
- Project management
- Experience working with the public and dealing with complaints
- Highway construction or maintenance experience.
- Supervisory Experience
- Understanding of the KYTC's Maintenance Policy and Processes

Additional position information (travel required, standing, stooping, bending, lifting, and sitting at a desk, etc.) Work will be performed in the office and in the field. Will be exposed to risks inherent to roadway maintenance and construction sites. Position will oversee winter snow and ice clearing operations and will be expected to work in inclement weather and during night shifts and overtime during those operations.

Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: See Special Requirements.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Must have two years of engineering experience in addition to that required for licensure as a professional engineer.
Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: A master's degree in engineering will substitute for one year of the required experience. Graduate work in engineering beyond a master's degree will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): Must possess a valid driver's license prior to employment in this job classification. Must be licensed as a professional engineer by the Kentucky Board of Engineers and Land Surveyors OR must be licensed in another state with the ability to obtain a Professional Engineering license from the Kentucky Board of Engineers and Land Surveyors within the employee's initial six month probationary period. Engineering decisions recommended by individuals without a Kentucky Professional Engineering License must be approved by a KRS Chapter 322 Licensed Professional Engineer until licensure is obtained.
