Boulder County Public Works is seeking to hire anAutomotive & Heavy Equipment Technician. The Automotive & Heavy Equipment Technician is the journey level classification in the equipment technician series. The Automotive & Heavy Equipment Technician performs a variety of skilled duties in the maintenance and repair of light duty, medium duty, heavy trailer and truck repair.
This is afull-time, benefited position that will work Monday - Thursday from 6am - 4:30pm April through October and Monday - Friday from 7am - 3:30pm October through April. this position will work at the OSTC Fleet Services, 5201 St. Vrain Rd- Building 4, in Longmont, CO. Under FLSA guidelines, this position is non-exempt (eligible for overtime).
Boulder County requires its employees toresidein the state of Colorado as of the first day of work.
Hiring Salary Range: $56,664.00 to $69,198.00 Annually

Examples of Duties
- Performs maintenance and repair work on gas hybrid, gasoline, and diesel engines, transmissions, differentials and drive units
- Performs maintenance and repair work on suspension, cooling, fuel, electrical, air conditioning and air systems
- Services and replaces equipment parts such as radiators, generators, hybrid electric drive motors, emission system components, fuel system components, air conditioning system components, brakes, clutches, and of major drive train components "engine, transmission and drive axles"
- Performs minor tune-ups on light, medium and heavy-duty vehicles using appropriate procedures out lined by manufacturer
- Perform minor metal fabrication and light welding, use of gas torch and arc welder
- Inspects County equipment for conformance with State safety and emissions regulations
- Maintains necessary records of all work performed using computerized fleet management system
- Performs related work, as required
- May be reassigned during emergency situations

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Boulder County is looking forwell qualifiedcandidates to fill our positions. Any combination of relevant education and experience is encouraged. In this position, we are looking for a minimum of a high school diploma, or equivalent and at least two years of experience in the servicing, maintaining, and repairing automotive and medium-to-heavy truck equipment

Back and Upper Body (lifting)
Constantly lift with one or two hands tools and parts weighing 1-30 lbs. from floor to waist. This lift and those below are done with one or two hands. Frequently lift tools and parts weighing 30-80 lbs. from floor to shoulder. Occasionally lift parts weighing 50-70 lbs., and over from floor to shoulder, with co-workers. Occasional push and pull average 100 lb. force using various jacks and supporting devices.
Hands and Arms
Must have strength and dexterity in both arms and both hands for constant use of all tools, including hammers, wrenches, and power tools of all sizes for long periods of time each day. Frequently spend time with arms overhead while lying under equipment, or arms extended with body leaning on equipment, or kneeling to the area being repaired (example of this would be taking brake shoes off using a 12 lb. impact or socket wrench). Occasionally disassemble and assemble various auto parts on work surfaces 35 inches high or at ground level.
Body Movement
Constantly stand, kneel, or lie on concrete floor. Must work in unusual positions, depending on the job being done. Frequently climb on and under equipment while carrying tools and parts weighing 1-30 lbs. Occasionally work out of shop on equipment broken down at job site or on roads in inclement weather.
