SUBSTITUTE JOURNEYMAN - PAINTER
Requirements / Qualifications
ENTRANCE QUALIFICATIONS: May combination equivalent to: Graduation of high school; courses at community college level/trade school and/or courses conducted by various companies; and one of the following: A. Pass the District Proficiency Examination at the level appropriate to the job classification. B. Any combination of education and experience equivalent to journeyman skill with minimum of three (3) recent years of experience as a journeyman painter (Additional training received at a trade school may substitute for one year of the required and recent experience.)
LICENSES: Possess and maintain a valid California Motor Vehicle Operator's license. Proof of journeyman level qualifications.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: KNOWLEDGE OF: Standard practices, materials and processes of the painting trade. Methods of preparing different surfaces for painting and repainting. ABILITY TO: Estimate the proper paint requirements for all types of surfaces. Mix, match and apply paints to all types of surfaces. Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and diagrams. Follow oral and written directions. Maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted during the performance of required duties. Maintain accurate work logs and records. Understand and carry out a variety of complex instructions in an independent manner. Safely use and operate a variety of hand tools, power tools, and other equipment used for building maintenance purposes. Quickly and effectively diagnose maintenance and repair problems and take appropriate action as needed. Communicate effectively in both oral and written forms. Perform mathematical calculations using addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Work safely and effectively on ladders, scaffolding, rigging, and roofs of varying heights. Meet the physical requirements necessary to safely and effectively perform the required duties.
