TxDOT's Austin District, Local Government team, within Transportation Planning Development Office is looking to fill one Transportation Engineer III, IV, or V position based in Austin, Texas located at the District Headquarters. This position requires proficiency in transportation engineering work in planning, project development, design, and project management and will be coordinating with multiple subject matter experts, consultants, and different offices within and outside of TxDOT. Work involves coordination with other local agencies, and the public. The ideal candidate is someone who has demonstrated understanding and knowledge of the TxDOT project development/management process, Federal Highway Administration requirements, and has great customer service skills. This position performs advanced and complex transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, project development and design, construction, transportation/traffic operations and maintenance. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level establish their own work plan and priorities to meet set objectives. Issues are rarely referred to the supervisor but are handled at the occurrence. Essential Duties: Responsibilities for a Transportation Engineer III, IV or V: Performs complex planning work such as plan review, calculations and assisting in transportation planning studies. Updates, reviews, monitors, and reviews requests for changes to plans, manuals and standard sheets. Coordinates and monitors assigned projects/programs/plans. Performs and coordinates the review and processing of Plans, Specifications & Estimates (PS&E) submission, special specifications, or special provisions. Monitors consultants' progress and work quality; checks invoices and associated documents; prepares supplemental agreements. Coordinates phases of preliminary design and revisions in PS&E with districts, divisions, Administration, the FHWA, contractors, fabricators, Corps of Engineers and local entities. Develops, recommends, and implements modifications as necessary for continual improvement to existing program of responsibility. Assists Project Managers related to resource assignments, schedules, scope, communication, quality, and procurement, while utilizing available resources and maintaining the agency's project objectives. Performs other job responsibilities as assigned. This position requires you to drive for TxDOT.
