Overview

The Utility Mechanic is responsible for performing mechanical repairs and preventative maintenance on mechanical equipment and systems in the wastewater treatment plants, pumping stations, and other facilities throughout Corpus Christi Water (CCW).

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and emergency treatment plant and lift station troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance functions including, but not limited to, mechanical equipment and systems, pumps, motors, generators, blowers, compressors, treatment plant process equipment, pneumatic and hydraulic systems, piping, valves, drivelines, conveyor systems, gearboxes, speed reducers, filtration systems, chemical feed systems, and de-water equipment
  • Perform preventative maintenance on mechanical process equipment utilized in water utility industry, such as lubrication, alignment, cleaning and changing filters, tightening belts, painting, rust removal, and corrosion control activities
  • Assist with failure analysis on various pieces of mechanical equipment and systems, pumps, motors, generators, blowers, compressors, treatment plant process equipment, pneumatic and hydraulic systems, piping, valves, drivelines, conveyor systems, gearboxes, speed reducers, filtration systems, chemical feed systems, and de-water equipment
  • Perform light fabrication tasks using power tools, welding equipment, and cutting torches
  • Operate power tools, lawn mowers, overhead cranes, crane truck, and other heavy equipment and machinery
  • Perform work in compliance with all safety practices while working in and around rotating mechanical equipment, hazardous gases and chemicals, elevated heights, confined space entry operations, and other hazardous working conditions
  • Maintain facilities and mechanical operations by inspecting, evaluating, and cleaning stations daily
  • Participate in field testing, equipment startup and shutdown, verification of operating performance, and system troubleshooting
  • Perform buildings and grounds maintenance in accordance with work schedules to ensure grounds, buildings, and equipment are maintained in a neat, clean, and safe operating condition to stay in compliance with TCEQ regulation
  • Improve operations by generating work orders to address equipment discrepancies or conditions within lift stations and treatment plants
  • Document time, material, and work description in Maximo, the City's computerized maintenance management program
  • Perform duties as safety officer and lead worker when working with lessor experienced mechanics
  • Performs other related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.

Position Type and Typical Hours of Work

  • Non-Exempt - Full-Time
  • Non rotating 40-hour work week, Monday - Friday, 7:00 am - 4:00 pm; must be available to work additional hours as needed
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is a schedule requirement
  • In the event of an emergency, employees are required to work to provide for the safety and well-being of the public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Two (2) years of experience

Licenses and Certifications

Required

  • A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire

Required within one (1) year of hire

  • Class B CDL
  • TCEQ Class I Wastewater Collection Operator License

Basis of Rating

A recruitment consultant will evaluate all applications against the posted qualifications. The city may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview.
