We have exciting vacancies for an experienced Building Inspector or someone ready to take the next step in their building career.

About the role | Ko te mahi nei

It's not just carrying out inspections, you will also be delivering professional advice and educating the industry on how and why we adhere to the Building Act. You will be responsible for:

Completing timely, accurate and concise site reports and records of site inspections in a professional and consistent manner.

Verifying that the construction project reflects the approved consent documents and details approval.

Providing advice and/or resolving building issues from a building inspection perspective, liaising with other sections of Council as appropriate.

Resolving customer enquiries and complaints.

Ensuring your knowledge of the Building Act, Regulations, and Code is up to date.

About you | Ko Koe Tenei

While we are always on the lookout for experienced Inspectors, we now have training capacity to consider someone off the tools or from a similar background. You will need to:

Hold, be working towards, or be prepared to study a regulation 18 qualification (this is a requirement from MBIE for all building control officials).

Have a comprehensive understanding of the Building Act, Building Code, and standards.

Be a registered LPB or registered plumber/drainlayer is desirable

Bring a positive attitude with a willingness to learn.

Hours of work - 37.5 - 40 hours per week

Position - Permanent

Location - This position is primarily based at Te Hononga, Christchurch City Council Civic Offices - 53 Hereford Street

Salary - The salary band for this position relates to the competency of the Inspector. Competency is achieved through assessments so Inspectors can progress at different rates. Starting salaries will be based on knowledge, skills and experience the successful candidate brings to the role, and relativities both, within the immediate team and in the broader organisation for the same or similar roles.

Level 1 - $74,394 - $82,660

Level 2 - $81,227 - $90,252

Level 3 - $96,465 $107,183
