The Design Engineer II performs or leads design and layout work, usually for multiple major projects, simultaneously. This position will support the needs of each project through individual phases and final installation. Provides guidance and training to Designers and Design Engineers throughout the organization. Improves and utilizes design tools and processes to strategically support continuous improvement.
Essential Job Functions
- Responsible for converting project information (e.g. specifications, general sales order information, data sheets, etc.) into drawings and other documentation that manufacturing then uses to produce a product.
- Responsible for converting design output into ERP records that manufacturing then uses to produce a product.
- Responsible for generating parts lists, requisitions and other ERP records necessary to convert design information into system demands.
- Responsible for various engineering tasks as dictated by projects (e.g., calculations, instrument sizing, or other technical document generation).
- Responsible for review of sales orders, customer specifications, design and calculations to maintain quality of engineering output.
- Responsible for determining and establishing specifications through engineering calculations.
- Evaluate and interpret technical requirements and specifications to provide guidance/direction within the design process.
- Identify deviations in job scope, estimates magnitude of changes, and notifies the appropriate parties.
- Provide technical support for Manufacturing as needed.
- Ensure that design continuity is maintained throughout the entire project.
- Ensure communication flow, both verbal and written, is maintained within engineering and with other design and engineering disciplines.
- Support and troubleshoot assembly and testing processes as they relate to design manufacturability and functionality.
- Provide timely resolution to issues related to design throughout the production process.
- Provide design support throughout the production processes as needed. Execute quality control procedures.
- Leverage knowledge of Staff Engineer / Lead Engineer in regards to design methodology, skills, and tools. Collaborate with other professional disciplines throughout the business on technical inquires and needs.
- Drive and execute design continuous improvement ideas and projects to improve efficiencies, improve manufacturability and reduce rework.
- Establish and maintain document control procedures.
- Ensure lessons learned applied to future efforts.
- Perform other related duties as required and assigned.
- Travel including international, could be up to 15% as required by the project or other needs.
- Must have a valid driver's license.
- Regular, in-person attendance due to necessary teamwork and personal interactive nature of this position.
- The ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities (Competencies)
- Advanced knowledge of AutoCAD and Inventor.
- Strong computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Knowledge of relevant standards (e.g., ASME).
- Excellent communication skills both orally and written.
- Ability to work independently or in a team.
- Strong interpersonal skills with a mechanical aptitude that allows for effective communication of the product to our customers.
- Manage and prioritize multiple tasks and projects in parallel in a time sensitive environment.
- Show initiative to perform duties beyond assignment-specific duties.
- Knowledge of engineering principles and techniques.
- Knowledge of various fabrication methods and installation procedures.
- Broad understanding of a wide spectrum of materials, their characteristics, tolerances and limitations.
- Broad understanding of the operation of various mechanical systems.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology or similar degree program is required.
- Obtain and maintain a Certificate of Engineer of Responsible Charge per ASME Section VIII Division 1 for at least one scope activity.
- Minimum of two (2) to four (4) years design related experience preferred.
Base Compensation Range: $71,066 - $111,155 annually
Variable Compensation Range: Incentive bonus eligibility up to 10% of gross annual salary base on company performance (as of 2024).

Professional office environment with some time spent in a manufacturing shop. Use of standard office equipment (computers, phones, copiers, and filing cabinets, etc.). Frequent presence on the manufacturing floor as well as field operations. Exposure to conditions, such as: dust, fumes, noise and high-degree varying seasonal temperatures.
