The City of Sandy Springs is seeking a CIP Field Superintendent to lead field operations for capital improvement construction projects. This is a boots-on-the-ground role responsible for ensuring contractors deliver quality work, on time and on budget, in compliance with contract terms, safety standards, and city expectations. You will be the City's eyes, ears in the field-resolving problems before they escalate and keeping projects on track through sharp oversight and strong communication. This full-time, non-exempt hourly position reports to the Construction Manager.
What You'll Be Doing:
- Oversee daily field operations of Public Works construction contractors, ensuring adherence to schedules, standards, and contracts
- Act as the primary field liaison between the City, contractors, utility providers, and the public
- Monitor contractor performance, productivity, and work quality; enforce project plans and specifications
- Conduct and document regular field inspections; maintain comprehensive construction records
- Review contractor pay applications; verify quantities and authorize payments for completed work
- Lead weekly construction update and coordination meetings; record action items and follow-ups
- Ensure contractor compliance with prevailing wage requirements, payroll reporting, materials certifications, and testing standards
- Validate traffic control setup against current MUTCD standards and ensure strict adherence to OSHA safety protocols
- Support development of bid packages, including performing material takeoffs
- Proactively identify issues and advise leadership on potential delays, conflicts, or solutions
- Maintain accurate, properly coded delivery tickets and ensure compliance with internal and external recordkeeping requirements
- Participate in after-hours on-call rotation and emergency response operations as needed
What You Bring:
- Minimum of 5 years of field-based construction contract management experience in a municipal or government setting
- Strong working knowledge of construction engineering standards, contract compliance, and GDOT specs
- High school diploma or GED
- Valid driver's license
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Outlook (and you don't fear a spreadsheet)
Bonus Points For:
- Associate or bachelor's degree in construction management or a related field
- 8+ years of experience in construction inspection, materials testing, and public infrastructure projects
- Familiarity with the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) and practical field enforcement experience
Physical & Operational Expectations:
- Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and work in a variety of outdoor conditions
- Comfortable in environments with heavy equipment, uneven surfaces, and construction hazards
- Flexible availability including weekends, holidays, and after-hours for emergencies or schedule demands
- Must be able to operate a city-provided vehicle and comply with all safety policies and regulations with a valid drivers license and clean driving history
