GFT is seeking a Highway Project Engineer to join our Transportation group in East Brunswick, NJ or Marlton, NJ . This role follows a hybrid work model, requiring regular attendance in our East Brunswick, NJ or Marlton, NJ office .

What you’ll be challenged to do:
As a Project Engineer, you will contribute to the design and development of roadway and highway projects across New Jersey. You’ll support project execution for clients such as NJDOT, NJTA, and other area agencies, working under the direction of senior engineers and project managers. You’ll take ownership of design tasks, prepare plans and technical documents, support project management activities, and help ensure projects are delivered on time and to quality standards. You’ll collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and provide guidance to junior staff, while continuing to grow your technical expertise and client-facing experience in transportation infrastructure work.
In this capacity, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following:
- Perform engineering design tasks for roadway projects from concept development to final design, including construction support
- Develop plans, specifications, cost estimates, reports, and prepare final bid packages
- Establish working relationships and contact with client technical staff and project managers
- Provide engineering design services on traditional design-bid-build projects and design-build highway projects
- Manage and mentor junior engineers on project assignments
- Coordinate design activities and meetings between design staff, subconsultants, and client managers
- Coordinate the planning, staffing, scheduling, budget management, quality control, of subconsultants and internal technical and support staff
- Participate in project decisions regarding technical approaches, cost and scheduling performance
- Lead projects and complete tasks within schedule and budget with teams comprised of different disciplines
- Project QA/QC
- Assist project managers with other various tasks
What you'll bring to our firm:
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in New Jersey, or ability to obtain through reciprocity within one year
- 8-10 years of engineering experience with broad knowledge of transportation design and strong technical skills in highway design
- Proficient in MicroStation, OpenRoads, and Microsoft Office
- NJDOT or NJTA design experience
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with a collaborative, team-oriented mindset
What we prefer you bring:
- Experience with AutoCAD and Civil 3D
- New Jersey client relationships
Compensation:
The range for this position is salary range is $115,000-$145,000. Salary is dependent upon experience and geographic location.
