Design Engineer
Job Description

The Design Engineer position involves performing research and creating designs for new products, as well as improving the characteristics of existing company products. The role encompasses product design, material selection, design timeline, prototyping of new products, and tooling and fixture design.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize SolidWorks CAD software to develop designs.
  • Develop engineering drawings and specifications using advanced drafting practices.
  • Create and revise production drawings.
  • Design and construct drawings for new products and improvements.
  • Create parts lists and establish design briefs.
  • Identify and select materials needed for production.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and vendors to assure specs, performance, and quality standards are communicated and achieved.
  • Ensure new designs are delivered on time and complete.
  • Design, model, and test prototypes for products.
  • Create engineering drawings for manufacturing jigs and fixtures.
  • Assist Quality Assurance with identifying critical dimension call outs.
  • Communicate effectively with Tooling, QA, Engineering, and Manufacturing regarding new and revised prints.
  • Identify quality issues and implement problem resolution.
  • Implement hands-on solutions to product changes and implementation.
  • Maintain positive and professional relationships with managers and personnel within the company.
Essential Skills
  • Bachelors degree in engineering with coursework in design and manufacturing or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience with SolidWorks.
  • Knowledge of computer design and engineering software.
  • Experience with project management and planning.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • 5 years of experience in a manufacturing/production environment, preferably automotive.
  • Basic operating knowledge of foam molding processes and equipment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to lead small cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational, leadership, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong computer skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
  • Working knowledge of up-to-date manufacturing techniques.
  • Fluency in English; proficiency in Japanese and/or Spanish is a plus.
Work Environment

The position operates in a professional office environment, typically with quiet to moderate noise levels. Occasionally, work may be required in a plant environment, where exposure to fumes, airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and wet areas may occur. The noise level in the plant can be loud. The position is full-time, Monday to Friday, with 8-hour workdays and potential for remote work one day a week.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $80000.00 - $95000.00/yr.
