Safety Specialist

Job Description

Join a dynamic team as a Safety Specialist, where your expertise will drive the safety culture on high-profile construction projects. You will be embedded in projects that prioritize innovation, quality, and a safety-first approach.

Responsibilities

  • Implement and manage the project's safety guidelines, site-specific safety plans, and any client-specific safety requirements.
  • Coordinate with the regional safety lead to ensure all necessary safety signage and PPE are available.
  • Confirm that all personnel scheduled to work on-site have completed the required safety orientation training.
  • Gather and organize documentation from subcontractors and trade partners, including Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), Safety Data Sheets (SDS), and other safety plans.
  • Conduct at least one safety audit per day using the designated digital platform, including annotated photos.
  • Share audit findings and corrective actions with the project team to ensure visibility and timely resolution.
  • Submit a minimum of two Safety Observation Reports (SORs) per week.
  • Spend 6070% of your time in the field engaging with crews and monitoring safety practices.
  • Attend and contribute to daily huddles, coordination meetings, foremens meetings, and preconstruction meetings.
  • Lead or support weekly all-hands safety meetings, including preparation of materials and attendance tracking.
  • Spot-check safety documentation during site visits.
  • Review and track Daily Action Plans (DAPs), High-Risk Activity Plans, hot work permits and checklists, and other project-specific safety documentation.
  • Immediately notify the project team and regional safety lead of any incidents or near-misses.
  • Assist in incident investigations and review reports prior to submission.
  • Ensure a 'Lessons Learned' summary is created for each incident or near miss.
  • Conduct site-specific safety orientations for all trade partners.
  • Maintain regular communication with subcontractor safety representatives.
  • Participate in or lead planning meetings for high-risk activities.
  • Maintain clear and frequent communication with the project team, safety leadership, and trade partners.
  • Be responsive to field inquiries and proactive in addressing safety concerns.
Essential Skills
  • Minimum 5 years of safety experience in construction, with at least 3 years in a managerial role.
  • Safety certifications such as CHST (Construction Health and Safety Technician) or CSP (Certified Safety Professional) are required.
  • Bachelors degree in a related field with 810 years of safety experience is acceptable.
  • Experience supporting data center construction projects is highly preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills across all levels of project teams.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience in commercial building construction is considered.
  • Reliable, proactive, and able to support and align with the project schedule.
  • Punctual, reliable, and able to accommodate the project's schedule.
  • Must be able to pass a background check and Drug/Alcohol test.
Work Environment

This role requires flexibility to align with project jobsite hours, typically starting at 5:00 or 6:00 AM, and may extend beyond standard hours as needed. You will spend 70% of your time in the field and 30% in the office, working onsite at a location in Gainesville, VA. A strong safety culture and collaboration are key elements of our team environment.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $60.00 - $70.00/hr.
