R&D Electrical Engineer
Job Description

Join a dynamic research and development team as an R&D Electrical Engineer, where you will contribute to the design and creation of cutting-edge products in the composite manufacturing and repair industry. This role demands a self-motivated and creative engineer with strong analytical skills.

Responsibilities

  • Lead circuit board design and development for new and innovative products.
  • Perform troubleshooting and collaborate with production on prototype and early-stage product builds.
  • Create, maintain, and improve engineering documentation for detailed drawings of electrical equipment and sub-assemblies, including schematics, wire diagrams, and circuit boards.
  • Design, simulate, and test complex analog, digital, and mixed-signal systems.
  • Engage in electronic design activities, including circuit boards, interface cabling, system integration, firmware integration, and power system architecture.
  • Create and maintain bills of materials for products produced and research and recommend the purchase of parts and materials used in prototyping and production.
  • Develop and maintain documentation related to manufacturing, including process specifications, test procedures, operation manuals, repair instructions, technical literature, and graphic and pictorial data.
  • Write structured code to meet software/firmware requirements and document, maintain, and test software configurations.
  • Interface with vendors to develop and enhance software for product offerings.
  • Compile and analyze test data to determine the effect of product design on various factors such as temperature, pressure, environmental factors, and energy consumption.
  • Collaborate with mechanical engineering and technical personnel to troubleshoot design issues such as product or system malfunctions, incomplete test data, and data interpretation.
  • Use project management skills to coordinate and facilitate special projects either under contract or as part of an industry area of interest aligned with the company mission.
Essential Skills
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting schematics, diagrams, and engineering drawings with moderate proficiency in AutoCAD.
  • Ability to design, maintain, and improve PCB design using Altium or similar software.
  • Experience with embedded systems design and common digital communication interfaces (USB, SPI, I2C).
  • Proficiency in implementing firmware and software including C, Python, and Linux OS.
  • Familiarity with PID controllers, microprocessors, and microcontrollers.
  • Hands-on electronics prototyping experience, including soldering and rework of fine-pitch SMT components.
  • Extensive experience testing and troubleshooting electrical systems.
  • Ability to prepare technical documentation, test plans, work instructions, and manuals.
  • Proficient in instrumentation for testing hardware, including oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, hi-pot testers, and multimeters.
  • Understanding of how to design for manufacturability, reliability, and low cost.
  • Due to legal requirements, must be a United States citizen.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Ability to design wire cables by sizing and selecting wires, connectors, pins, and sockets for functionality and safety requirements.
  • Embedded Linux experience.
  • Experience with UL standards, specifically UL 508, -1, 603335-1.
  • CE compliance and testing.
  • Project management and planning skills.
  • Experience in design and testing of prototypes.
Work Environment

This position is 100% on-site in Tukwila, within a combination of usual office conditions and a manufacturing environment. The working area is drug-free, and due to elements in the production area, conditions may be less desirable than typically found in an office setting. Exposure to elements such as odor, dust, heat, cold, or chemicals may occasionally occur. The production area is a chemical working area; food is not allowed.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $65.00/hr.
