Duties: Function as a technical specialist in a lead substation design role encompassing distribution, subtransmission and transmission level voltage classes. Apply advanced engineering techniques and analyses for problems and methods. Expand knowledge and skill set in area of discipline. Expand knowledge in other disciplines and/or functional areas. Lead/train other engineers and technicians and interface directly with clients. Lead the overall execution and quality of substation projects within a team environment. Prepare a variety of complex engineering deliverables. Perform complex research and develop recommendations for equipment and/or materials selection. Manage assigned budget, schedule, and quality requirements. Plan and conduct independent evaluation, selection and adaptation of engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria. Review lower-level engineering work or assignments. Oversee collection, assimilation, and management of data for engineering work. Lead smaller production teams. Serve as the responsible charge for a project. Collaborate with the client and other electrical and civil engineers at Black & Veatch. Perform QA (Quality Assurance) checking and/or generate wiring and schematic diagrams for relaying panels, SCADA drawings, one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, panel front views, AC/DC diagrams, electrical plan views, electrical section views, conduit/raceway plans, cable charts, grounding plans and bill of materials. Perform relay coordination, program relay settings and provide protection narrative and relay manuals for substation. Serve as the responsible engineer performing grounding analysis and hazard mitigation for substations. Perform QA and/or generate various calculations, such as AC & DC, bus loading, voltage drop, equipment sizing, conductor rating, and lightning. Confer with engineers, clients, or others to discuss existing or potential engineering projects or products. Serve as the responsible engineer, develop recommendations and specifications for equipment and/or material selection, review shop drawings, vendor quotes, perform bid evaluations, develop construction release and startup procedure documents. Assist with identification of key client interests and drivers on less complex projects. Oversee Electrical Engineers. No hire/fire authority.
