Pay: $33.30 / hour

Summary of Position:
Analyze, appraise and where possible, repair or install maintenance and building equipment, pumps, fans and HVAC equipment. Difficult instances may be referred to the Managers or to the Mechanic I. Required familiarity with procedures for corrective and preventative maintenance. Have knowledge of use of hand tools for various applications. Repack and inspect pump for proper operations. Oil and grease equipment as needed. Make minor repairs in the plumbing system, which may require familiarity with pipe fitting and sweating. Repair in-house custodial equipment. Do minor roof repairs and carpentry. Establish preventative maintenance programs and follow routine corrective maintenance on a daily basis. Write reports about the status of equipment, make parts list as needed to repair the equipment and make recommendation for replacement of equipment. Answer emergency calls on a priority basis; report the daily progress to supervisor. Maintain work area and tools in a neat and orderly fashion. In case of emergency, may be called upon to help out in other areas.
Provides utility services including cleaning up spills, cleaning equipment, shoveling snow and removing ice, setting up classrooms and meeting rooms. Provides trades assistance to the trades personnel and mechanics, including but not limited to changing fluorescent tubes; cleaning light fixtures; greasing and oiling of motors and pumps; changing belts and filters; and cleaning mechanical rooms. Other duties include picking up parts, delivering and moving furniture and office supplies between buildings.
Requirements:
- High School and/or Trade School is preferred.
- Two or more years of experience in general mechanical work and maintenance of equipment preferred.
- Works with limited supervision.
- Must be able to read, write and understand English.
- Completed both levels of University certification testing.
- Must possess a valid driver's license.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, talk or hear, and taste or smell. The employee frequently is required to walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit and climb or balance. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 30 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and in outside weather conditions and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes, or airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
