Summary:

Responsible for providing coordination, planning, and supervision to assistant superintendents, contractors, and craft activities in a particular area of discipline. Develop and enhance customer relationships by providing excellent service.

Responsibilities

KEY RESULT AREAS (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS)

  • Responsible for planning and implementation to ensure all materials, equipment, and inspections support the project schedule
    • Review construction documents for completeness and constructability
    • Review and understand contract documents
    • Coordinate plans and specifications with design engineers, resolving discrepancies
    • Participate in the development and management of a project schedule to include three and six week look ahead schedule
    • Develop a site logistics plan
    • Lead the utilization of Mortenson tools and equipment
    • Collaborate with project partner superintendents
  • Responsible for coaching, supervision and development
    • Conduct on-site project orientations
    • Conduct effective pre-construction planning sessions and project site meetings
    • Supervise project partners, craft foremen, and crews
    • Interview, hire, transfer, and if needed dismiss craft team members
    • Coach and mentor assistant superintendents, craft team members, and other project team members
    • Ensure proper task coding of work hours on time cards
    • Lead and track work progress and craft productivity
    • Handle craft team member training, ensuring they are current prior to starting task
    • Conduct career development discussions with foremen and craft team members
  • Effectively work and build relationships with those of diverse backgrounds and organizational levels
  • Lead team members by example, offer effective coaching and feedback, and effectively manage performance
  • Other duties as assigned, including:
    • Provide high level management of safety, quality, risk, and compliance for the project and team members
    • Recognize and mitigate unfavorable working conditions
    • Seek opportunities to improve processes and procedures
Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Shown ability to fulfill all responsibilities for multiple, complex projects
  • Detail orientation sufficient to organize and manage multiple project tasks
  • Basic understanding of construction law and generally accepted business practices
  • Microsoft Office skills at an intermediate level
  • Shown positive and professional attitude, and strong customer service skills
  • Ability to interpret and communicate Mortenson policies
  • Active listening skills and effective communication including an openness to diverse input and feedback
  • Ability to travel up to 100%

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Associates or Bachelors degree in Construction, Civil, or Architectural Engineering or Construction Management, or 10 years trade experience
  • Minimum eight years construction experience with two of those years having supervisory experience
  • Current drivers license

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This position requires the following with or without an accommodation; sitting, walking, standing, lifting, climbing, pushing, pulling, hearing, visual acuity, and utilization of a computer and office equipment. This person must be physically capable of reviewing a jobsite multiple times daily. The working environments consist of exposure to dirt, heat, noise, dust, and outdoor weather; as well as indoor and climate-controlled settings.
