The Field Engineer provides project engineering and project management services in the field in foundation drilling and grouting related to construction of the lock chamber at Chickamauga Lock.

**Responsibilities**

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to the following:

Field Engineering & Project Execution

+ Management of subcontractors for geologists and drilling and grouting scopes to ensure compliance with project specifications.

+ Provide technical and commercial inputs regarding management of subcontracts and prime contract.

+ Coordination of work processes, interface with other departments, external contractors, and resources such as project team members

+ Provide technical support to field crews, ensuring accurate interpretation of drawings, specifications, and contract requirements.

+ Oversee layout, surveying, and grade control to maintain project accuracy.

+ Help manage and implement construction methodologies and best practices in collaboration with the superintendent and project team.

Quality Control & Safety Compliance

+ Conduct field inspections to ensure work meets Shimmicks quality standards and project specifications.

+ Work with the Quality Control team to document and resolve non-conformances.

+ Assist in safety audits and enforce compliance with OSHA and Shimmick safety policies.

+ Promote a safety-first culture by proactively identifying and mitigating potential hazards.

Scheduling & Cost Management

+ Assist in developing, updating, and maintaining project schedules.

+ Track material quantities, labor hours, and equipment utilization to support cost control efforts.

+ Identify and help resolve potential project delays or budget overruns.

Communication & Coordination

+ Work closely with project managers, superintendents, foremen, and design teams to facilitate smooth execution.

+ Prepare and track RFIs (Requests for Information), submittals, daily reports, and as-built documentation.

+ Participate in daily and weekly construction meetings to discuss project progress and challenges.

+ Serve as a liaison between the field and office, ensuring seamless communication and issue resolution.

Technology & Documentation

+ Utilize construction management software such as Bluebeam for tracking project data.

+ Maintain organized field records and documentation for closeout and future reference.

**Qualifications**

Minimum Requirements:

+ Bachelors Degree in Engineering; or related field + 2 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education

Preferred Qualifications:

+ Proficiency in AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office Suite.

+ Understanding of heavy civil construction methods, means, and materials.

+ Ability to interpret plans, specifications, and technical documents.

+ Knowledge of OSHA regulations and safety standards.

+ Effective leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.

+ Ability to work in outdoor and high-paced field environments.

The salary range for this position is between $85,000-$95,000 per year depending on experience and/or education.
