This Opportunity

We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join our team in Tucson, AZ and support mining and mineral processing projects throughout the U.S., Latin America and globally. This role will contribute to feasibility, trade-off, and detailed engineering phases, with a strong emphasis on mechanical and pipeline system design, layout coordination, equipment specification, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Your Impact

  • Work closely with various team staff in the design of mechanical and pipeline systems across the mining industry, including complex multi-discipline engineering projects and field engineering services;
  • Support the development and review of mechanical and pipeline systems for mining facilities, including crushing, grinding, flotation, thickening, filtering, tailings transport, and support infrastructure.
  • Assist in designing piping systems for pump stations, slurry transport, process water, and reagent systems.
  • Review and develop technical calculations, engineering designs, equipment sizing, data sheets, specifications, and P&IDs.
  • Develop and review technical documents including reports, data sheets, specifications, and requisitions for mechanical equipment and piping components.
  • Support mechanical-piping interface reviews and layout optimization.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams across offices and time zones to ensure system integration.
  • Participate in vendor evaluations, bid reviews, and technical meetings with clients and suppliers.
  • Assist with site visits, equipment walkdowns, and constructability reviews as needed.
  • Contribute to team knowledge transfer and a collaborative global project delivery culture.
  • Assist in field project coordination, engineering services and troubleshooting with direct client interface under the supervision of senior engineer
  • Prepare proposals in response to client request for proposal
  • Complete training on assigned tasks.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • 3-5 years of experience in mechanical engineering in the mining, industrial, or infrastructure sectors.
  • Experience with mechanical systems such as flotation cells, thickeners, filters, tanks, and pumps.
  • Familiarity with piping and pipeline systems for tailings, process fluids, and water management.
  • Exposure to pump sizing, pipeline routing, and mechanical-piping coordination.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, Navisworks, and standard engineering tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across global, multidisciplinary teams.
  • Analytical mindset with an ability to exercise sound judgement in evaluating situations and making decisions.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
  • Capable self-leadership with attention to detail, accuracy, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Intermediate proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, technology, math principles, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.
  • Strong communication skills in English (written and spoken); multilingual capabilities are a plus.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
  • Must pass background check

Preferred Qualifications

  • Good problem solver with ability to identify alternative solutions.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or in progress.
  • Familiarity with AFT Fathom, AMETANK, SIDEWINDER, and Microsoft Office tools.
