Job Overview: The Fabricator Lead is a leadership role responsible for overseeing and executing the cutting, shaping, assembling, and installation of glass products in both residential and commercial settings. This position requires a high level of expertise in glass fabrication, advanced knowledge of tools and techniques, and the ability to mentor and guide junior fabricators. The Senior Fabricator ensures the highest standards of craftsmanship, safety, and efficiency, while also managing projects and collaborating with clients, contractors, and team members.
Key Responsibilities:
Advanced Glass Cutting & Shaping:
Lead the fabrication process for complex and custom glass projects, including windows, doors, mirrors, partitions, and specialty glass applications.
Utilize advanced glass fabrication tools and machinery to achieve precise cuts and finishes, ensuring superior quality for both residential and commercial projects.
Troubleshoot and resolve complex fabrication issues, offering solutions for custom orders and unique project requirements.
Project Management & Oversight:
Coordinate and oversee fabrication timelines, ensuring that all glass products meet customer specifications and are delivered on time.
Supervise and assign tasks to other fabricators, ensuring effective workflow and optimal team performance.
Collaborate with project managers and construction teams to ensure seamless integration of glass products into larger building projects.
Manage inventory of materials and supplies, making recommendations for restocking or new product orders based on project needs.
Glass Installation and Assembly:
Lead the installation of glass products on-site, ensuring precise and safe installation according to engineering plans and client specifications.
Review and verify measurements and design requirements before installation to avoid errors.
Handle complex installation tasks, including handling oversized glass panels and intricate glass systems.
Provide training to junior team members on proper installation techniques, glazing, and the safe handling of glass materials.
Client Relations and Consultation:
Serve as the primary point of contact for clients regarding the glass fabrication process, providing expert advice and recommendations on glass types and solutions for residential and commercial applications.
Actively communicate with clients to clarify design needs, resolve concerns, and ensure customer satisfaction throughout the project lifecycle.
Manage client expectations, providing timely updates and delivering high-quality craftsmanship.
Safety Leadership & Compliance:
Maintain and enforce rigorous safety standards in all fabrication and installation activities, ensuring compliance with OSHA and industry regulations.
Conduct regular safety training sessions for team members, promoting a culture of safety in the workplace.
Inspect the work environment, tools, and equipment to ensure that all safety protocols are followed, mitigating risks associated with glass handling and installation.
Mentoring & Team Development:
Lead by example, providing mentorship to junior fabricators, installers, and apprentices to ensure continued professional development and high performance.
Offer on-the-job training for new hires, helping them to acquire advanced fabrication skills and knowledge.
Provide constructive feedback to team members, assisting with performance improvement and troubleshooting fabrication or installation challenges.
Quality Control & Inspection:
Oversee and perform final inspections of all glass products before installation, ensuring they meet design specifications, safety standards, and quality expectations.
Lead troubleshooting and corrective action for any defects or inconsistencies in the glass fabrication or installation process.
Maintain high standards of craftsmanship, ensuring every finished product meets or exceeds the company's quality benchmarks.
Continuous Improvement & Innovation:
Stay up to date on new technologies, techniques, and trends in the glass fabrication industry, integrating innovations to improve work efficiency and product quality.
Propose and implement improvements to fabrication processes, tools, and safety measures to increase productivity and reduce costs.
Experiment with new materials and glass types to offer clients cutting-edge solutions.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or GED required; technical certification or vocational training in glass fabrication is highly preferred.
5+ years of experience in glass fabrication, with at least 2 years in a leadership or senior position within residential or commercial glass services.
Extensive experience with a wide variety of glass types (e.g., tempered, laminated, insulated, low-E) and advanced fabrication techniques.
Proven experience managing projects from start to finish, including coordinating fabrication and installation teams.
Skills and Abilities:
Mastery in the operation of glass cutting and shaping machinery, with advanced expertise in customizing glass solutions.
Strong project management skills, with the ability to oversee multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
Expertise in reading and interpreting detailed technical drawings, blueprints, and project specifications.
Excellent understanding of glazing systems and complex installation processes, especially for commercial applications.
Ability to diagnose and solve problems in the fabrication or installation process quickly and efficiently.
Expertise in ensuring the highest safety standards during fabrication, installation, and team operations.
Solid knowledge of building codes, industry regulations, and quality standards specific to glass and construction.

Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and move heavy glass (up to 100 lbs) safely.
- Ability to work at heights, on ladders, or scaffolding as necessary.
- Ability to stand for long periods and perform physical tasks in various weather conditions, both indoors and outdoors.
- Ability to bend, kneel, and carry out tasks that require manual dexterity and fine motor skills.
Work Environment:
- Work is conducted in a combination of workshop environments, client job sites, and construction projects.
- Some tasks may involve working outdoors, at heights, or in confined spaces.
- Frequent travel between fabrication facilities and job sites may be required.
