Clarificion from the agency

This position is being filled using the Alaska Nional Interest Lands Conservion Act (ANILCA), local hiring authority (16 USC 3198).

Any U.S. Citizen who has acquired special knowledge or expertise regarding the nural or cultural resources of Kmai Nional Park, by reason of having either lived or worked in or near the unit, may apply. Duties

Help

You will work as a Utility Systems Repairer-Operor, WG-4742-07 Kmai Nional Park and Preserve. Duties include but are not limited to the following:

Operion of various wer trement systems King Salmon and Brooks Camp: Wer systems require wer inspections and testing rounds must be accomplished a minimum of 20 times per month. Incumbent is responsible for maintaining wer systems in good condition through installing, maintaining and repair, pumps, holding tanks, distribution pumps, Walchem and LMI metering pumps, injection points, and distribution systems. Incumbent responsible for seasonal start up and shut down of the various well houses holding tanks and distribution systems. Most notably, operor will winterize systems thoroughly.

Samples and Organizion : Incumbent will oversee collecting wer samples and keeping associed records organized. Incumbent must retain records for each system and correspond to the approprie Public Wer System Identificion Number (PWSID). Operor responsible for monthly collection samples and coordinion of lab test results along with maintaining annual records with notes regarding amounts of solution made, chemicals used, residual readings, repairs and modificions. Responsible for regular storage of well houses. Responsible for writing the annual consumer confidence reports as required by EPA and AK Department of Environmental Conservion (DEC).

Wastewer Collection and Trement : Incumbent operes three wastewer systems and several vault toilets. Responsible for maintaining the wastewer collection lines in good condition. Will be involved with annual sludge and septic tank sludge removal, trement, and disposal operions. Incumbent responsible for overseeing the annual pumping of septic sludge and vault toilet sludge, trement and disposal.

Plumbing : The incumbent will perform plumbing reled duties which will include planning, layout, and routing of piping systems specifically reled to the wer and wastewer fields. Ability to adjust and ensure the proper operion of the wer and wastewer systems. Install, modify, and repair new and existing utility, supply, and disposal systems and equipment such as sewage, wer, oil, and gas distribution systems, and wer closets, tubs, sprinklers, and showers. Responsible for preventive maintenance of the equipment and systems stressed including tools of the trade such as pipe threaders, wrenches, transit, tapping machines, pipe snapper, manual and power tools associed with the field.

Electrical : Incumbent will work with genered power and expected to do routine maintenance on 105 and 60 Kilowt cummings generors. Performs tests and diagnoses of single and three-phase motors and rheosts, timers, sensors, and ballasts. Completes routine maintenance, makes repairs, troubleshoots systems and individual components, makes replacements, and installs new systems, components, and equipment. Maintains and troubleshoots systems ranging from large primary voltages to small millivolt/milliamp digital equipment. Diagnose and repair electrical parts.

Additional Duties: The incumbent required to accomplish minor maintenance to buildings, housing and grounds using the following building maintenance skills: hydraulic repair, plumbing, painting, and carpentry. Advises management and department chiefs on ways to minimize the Park's waste stream and the production / storage of hazardous merials. Also conducts park housing check-in and check-out of employees. Oversee housing grounds and maintenance operions. Helps with freight and cargo handling and will utilize park equipment vehicles, trucks and loaders for these operions to include timely documention of daily tasks accomplished per pay period using computerized systems. Must be able to work safely in the Building and Utility trades; use approprie Personal Protective Equipment; participe in tailge Safety and Job Hazard Analysis meetings; comply with Ste and Federal regulions; and follow policies and guidelines reled to ethics and workplace conduct.

This is a career-seasonal position. Career-seasonal appointments are permanent positions and include the same benefits as Career appointments, but do not provide work on a year-round basis. You will work approximely 11.5 months in pay stus, from early March through mid-February, and you in a non-pay stus for the remainder of the year for one full eighty hour pay period from le February through early March.

You required to wear a uniform and comply with the Nional Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance provided.

Selectee must have the ability to lift as much as 50 pounds.

You required to complete a two-year trial (probionary) period.

Physical Demands: Work assignments typically require moderely heavy physical effort to lift, carry, or otherwise handle items typically weighing up to 40 pounds. Duties require the incumbent to maneuver into and out of specific locions while dismantling and assembling utility reled equipment. The incumbent may make repairs from ladders, scaffolding, and plforms where the parts of systems worked on are in hard-to-reach places. Frequent standing, walking, bending, crouching, reaching, and stooping is typical. Occasionally, climbing and work in high places may be required, as well as the use of hoists, holders, and pulleys when handling large equipment.

Working Conditions: Work is both indoors and outdoors where the incumbent may be subject to prevailing weher conditions. The incumbent may be exposed to biological hazards or diseases while cleaning equipment or shoveling sludge, and hazardous gases such as methane, chlorine, hydrogen sulfide, and carbon monoxide. The incumbent may also be subject to electrical shock, loud noises, acids, and hydraulic fluids while working around motors and pumps. There is exposure to shock, burns, and strains. The incumbent follows prescribed safety practices and uses safety equipment such as face shields, gloves, hard-toe shoes, respirors, and protective clothing th may be uncomfortable to wear. The incumbent is required to tend and participe in safety meetings and training and review and follow safety regulions and policies prior to using Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as goggles, rubber ms, gloves, hard hs and respirors as the jobs require. The incumbent may be required to opere motor vehicles.
