Responsibilities

  • Staff mentoring/development/technical oversight
  • Performs project quality assurance to ensure that processes are in place to produce project deliverables at the applicable level of quality. Performs audits, identifies, and investigates quality problems that lead to project changes, and modifies project plans as needed.
  • Project management, primarily for large, complex and/or multidisciplinary projects.
  • Makes project decisions or recommendations regarding technical approach, costs, and scheduling for major/complex projects.
  • Business development activities expected.
  • Preliminary and final design document preparation for complex bridge-focused transportation projects across the New England region.
  • Establish and monitor budgets to assess profitability.
  • Professionally represents VHB at meetings, present data to clients, government officials, and industry representatives.
  • Willingness to travel to VHB offices throughout New England.

Skills and Abilities

  • Motivated to advise and mentor structural engineering teams
  • Must possess strong technical skills
  • Demonstrated excellence in verbal presentations and technical writing is essential
  • Detail oriented and quality focused
  • Team oriented with strong capability to work independently

Qualifications

  • 15+ years of civil or structural engineering experience with Load and Resistance Factor Design
  • BS in Civil Engineering (structural emphasis preferred), Masters degree preferred
  • PE License required
  • Able to exhibit progressively responsible experience in structural bridge design, construction phasing, and complex bridge projects within the New England region
  • Experience completing transportation studies, design reports, final design documents and developing contract plans, in conformity with accepted engineering standards and procedures including AASHTO & DOT
  • Independent experience developing bridge design and detailing (steel, concrete, prestressed concrete), and seismic analysis
  • Knowledge of structural engineering software
  • AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation v8, Open Bridge Designer and Connect experience is a strong plus
  • Supervisory or team lead experience
