PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
The Hiring Range for this position is: $30.98-$38.72
Signing Bonus: New employees are eligible for a $5,000 bonus;
The signing bonus will be paid in installments as follows:
$1,000 on the first paycheck
$1,000 after 3 months from the hire date
$1,000 after 6 months from the hire date
$1,000 after 9 months from the hire date
$1,000 after 12 months from the hire date

OVERVIEW OF POSITION / DEPARTMENT
The HVAC Technician is responsible for interim repairs, preventative maintenance, general repairs, troubleshooting, installation, and replacement of building infrastructure, to include HVAC, Plumbing, and Electrical systems across 160 City buildings. We are looking fora skilled HVAC Technician who will perform skilled manual and technical work involved in the control, maintenance, repair, and operation of the City HVAC systems and assist with work planning by scheduling, organizing, and securing materials and equipment for the accomplishment of assigned tasks.
PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Performs HVAC installations, repairs and preventative maintenance tasks for residential and commercial type HVAC systems
Monitors and inspects facilities, equipment and HVAC systems to determine compliance with City, State and National codes, that need repairs or upgrades
Reviews blueprints, construction drawings, and plans
Analyzes malfunctions and makes repairs or adjustments
Coordinates, monitors and performs installation of materials, fixtures and equipment to HVAC systems
May oversee outside HVAC contractors for compliance of codes and good work practices
Operates specialized tools and equipment
Operates computers
Operates monitoring and testing equipment
Operates computerized monitoring and BAS systems
Maintains records of operation, maintenance, and repairs
Prepares related reports
Performs detailed HVAC preventive maintenance tasks
Maintains inventory of parts and supplies
Trains subordinate employees as appropriate
May act as HVAC lead worker
Performs other related duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & WORKING CONDITIONS
An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.
Education:
High School Diploma or GED
Experience:
At least five (5) years progressively responsible experience in commercial and residential HVAC repair and maintenance
Preferred Qualifications:
Minimum of three (3) years commercial building and facilities maintenance (Preferred)
Experience with Building Automated Systems (BAS), namely Johnson Controls Metasys Software
Knowledge :
Knowledge of practices, procedures, equipment and systems related to HVAC including EPA regulations in the handling of CFC's
Applicable safety practices and procedures
Knowledge of practices, procedures, equipment and systems related assigned function
Current HVAC and Building codes
Hazards and safety practices common to the construction industry
Skills :
Skill in the use of tools and equipment related to HVAC
Skill in the use of basis computer programs and related software to include Microsoft Office
Skill in the use of single person lifts and fall protection procedures
Skill in monitoring the work of assigned coworkers
Course Training (Proficient Level)
Current HVAC, Refrigeration and Building codes
Hazards and safety practices common to the construction industry
Abilities:
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and citizens
Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
Read and comply with blueprints, diagrams, schematics, manuals and specifications

Colorado Drivers License
EPA Universal Certification
Essential Personnel :
When a local announcement of emergency or disaster is declared by the City, all City of Aurora employees may be required to work as essential personnel.
Physical Demands :
Moderate to heavy physical work requiring ability to lift a maximum of 100 pounds
Frequent lifting and carrying of objects weighing up to 50 pounds
Considerable walking and standing
Frequent performance of activities which require a full range of body movement including bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, and climbing
Hand/eye coordination for operation of maintenance and construction equipment
Vision to read reports and manuals
Speech to communicate with employees and citizens.
Work Environment :
Works both indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions with exposure to dust and noise and may encounter fumes from certain chemicals.
