Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking a candidate who is ready to collaborate and develop innovative Printed Circuit Board (PCB) solutions with our Electrical and Mechanical Engineers. This position will support our Armament Systems Business site in Plymouth, MN.

Position Summary.

  • Layout of Printed Wiring Boards (PWB) with component placement, interconnect routing and drawing generation
  • Creating, documenting and generating the required drawings and electronic data file outputs for the fabrication and manufacturing of the PWB
  • Responsible to interface with Electrical and Mechanical engineers to work through mechanical fitment and electrical component placement and routing challenges for rigid, flex assemblies, and rigid-flex assemblies
  • Coordinates design criteria with engineering, manufacturing, tooling, material, and planning group such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials, and contractual specifications
  • Responsible for designs including System in Package (SiP), High Density Interconnect (HDI), high speed routing including DDR4, complex analog, RF and high speed SERDES
  • Understand technical theories of electrical and mechanical behavior of PCBs to influence layout decisions. i.e. Impedance matching, differential pairs, HDI technology challenges, strains and stresses, orientations of components, etc.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to interact with co-workers and conduct reviews of PCB layout with a team of engineers
  • Interact with suppliers to enable the fabrication of the finished product
  • Preferable: PCB Librarian experience like create/check schematic symbols, physical footprints from part specs and design guidelines for IPC class 3 designs and IPC class 2 designs; perform component validation by running parts through entire schematic and board layout process; maintain and organize library in a revision control system. Familiarization with Mentor EDM database.

Basic Qualifications:

  • High School diploma plus 4 years of Printed Wiring Board (PWB) layout experience
  • 2-year technical degree in related discipline plus 5-7 years of PWB layout experience is highly desired
  • Experience using Printed Circuit Board (PCB) design suites such as Cadence, Altium and Mentor Graphics VX
  • Strong organization, planning and time-management skills
  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Ability to obtain a DoD Secret Clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology with focus on ECAD and Drafting
  • Extensive experience using Mentor Graphics Xpedition VX2.x, xDM and xDM library client.
  • Experience in complex designs including the utilization of HDI technology
  • Experience using Mentor Fablink or Blue Print for drawing creation
  • Working knowledge of military design standards and GD&T techniques
  • Current understanding of IPC industry standards
  • Experience creating component cells, pads, and working within datasheets for part creation
  • Experience working in EDM Library Cockpit
  • Experience reviewing relevant Peer documentation including PWB and CCA drawings
Salary Range: $67,300.00 - $112,100.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
